I purchased a bundle of unused Leica lenses sometime ago, and planned to sell on the 90mm Summicron and keep the rest.

When taking pictures of the 90mm to post in classifieds. I saw what looks like a fleck of black paint inside the lens assembly.

I’d prefer to fix this before selling on the lens and wondered if it was worth/possible to open the lens and attempt to blow the fleck out? Or is Leica service centre is the only option, a rough idea of costs and timescales?

Aside from the fleck of ‘paint’, this lens and all the the other lenses are pristine, so it does feel they are unused lenses, just unlucky with this one.

  • Nick-- changed the title to Paint spec in 90mm Summicron 11884

Send a like new mint lens to a professional service person.

They will remove the spec without damaging your pristine lens.
I recently had a similar looking spec in a lens, it turned out to be an insect!

I had my lens serviced by Will van Manen. That was quick and easy for me living in NL. Will and Cathy do an excellent job cleaning lenses.
If you want you can get it coded as well. Will uses the original flange so there are no adjustment issues.
