...and if you use older lenses on the newer M bodies, the resolution and optical quality of the lenses might not be able to keep up with the 40MP sensor of the M10r...

Sorry but that's complete nonsense. The concept of a lens 'keeping up' with a sensor simply doesn't exist.

Fortunately the Forum has the 'Ignore User' feature so I don't have to read quite so many silly posts as would otherwise be the case......😸......

People very successfully shoot stock photos and videos with a phone, so Leica is a premium.

yes indeed, I have about 400 images on Alamy's Stockimo app, though they've now closed it off

Don't worry too much about the side discussions, @FlickM, and enjoy your great M camera 🙂

That's kind. I love my camera. I think it's just a product of the internet that people feel compelled to wade in with an opinion - and they are very often people who wouldn't dare be so controversial face to face.

I acquired my first digital Leica, also an M262, in September last year for a trip to Japan. I’ve been extremely pleased, even a little surprised, with the rich and natural colours in my photos. Even the metering and exposure accuracy seems perfectly well calibrated for my colour negative film background.

Enjoy your journey!

Disclaimer, this is a totally subjective statement and a contentious one.

I agree that lenses can take any sensor and the higher resolution sensors resolve more of the 'character' of that lens, as well as performing better in a technical sense. The question is, if you will prefer the way it draws and looks on a higher MP sensor. For what it's worth, I do not. I prefer my vintage lenses on lower mp sensors, purely as an aesthetic preference that I believe I can see in an image. If you are a beast in post processing then you can get them to a similar place I'm sure, but I, like many I'm sure, shoot Leica M for the emotive feeling that I believe I see in images and I do not feel the same about my images on more recent cameras.

I would certainly suggest renting whatever body you are considering prior to a purchase.

If you mean me, I just don't inhabit a world where I have the disposable income to rent a camera. Buying even my old, pre owned Leica required putting it on a credit card, then literally paring back on what food I buy etc, eking things out, until I've paid off the debt.

Apologies, I was under the impression that you were considering another camera at some point. The 262 is a gem. Happy shooting!

I am indeed, but it will be the same pattern as now, credit card, then bread and water diet for the foreseeable future, and some years down the line. And certainly no extras like camera hire 😊
