sugsug Posted April 18, 2024 Share #1 Posted April 18, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone feels the Q3 viewfinder shows better color accuracy than the screen? Or is it just mine showing differently. When I transfer the files to my desktop, they looked more similar to my viewfinder than the screen. Share your thoughts please. Le Chef Posted April 18, 2024 Share #2 Posted April 18, 2024 My EVF and LCD both show B&W to avoid the distraction of color. I can pick and choose what I want later in Lightroom.
radialMelt Posted April 18, 2024 Share #3 Posted April 18, 2024 Whether or not it is "more accurate" I cannot say, but there is definitely a very noticeable difference in color rendition between the EVF and LCD, yeah.

EVF and LCD settings are individually (and independently) customisable, hence they will usually differ in rendition somwhat.

Yes, I am aware. However it would be nice to not have to eyeball that myself.
JNK100 Posted April 18, 2024 Share #6 Posted April 18, 2024 My understanding is that the EVF is an OLED panel and the rear screen LCD. This might explain any minor differences.

There may be reasons for setting the EVF differently from the LCD. The LCD will be viewed at from a distance, and thus under the influence of the surrounding light, there will be reflections on the LCD panel, etc. The EVF, when in use, is pretty much shielded from those interfering influences, and thus usually needs less contrast as well as less brightness, resulting in a different color rendition, too. That's why they are individually adjustable. Every person's perception is different, just adjust both the EVF and the LCD to what you personally feel matches best. sugsug Posted April 18, 2024 Author Share #8 Posted April 18, 2024 I have not gone into adjusting them individually. I just feel the EVF has better looking contrast overall and a bit more saturated than the LCD. Well, glad that I am not the only one who feels they look quite different. Thanks for the input guys! David Wien Posted April 18, 2024 Share #9 Posted April 18, 2024 I shoot raw, and there is no setting in the camera that lets me adjust colour balance on the raw files that the Q3 saves to disk. So I dont even bother about the exact colours I see when taking the picture: I concern myself solely with the composition and the exposure. It is only later, when I look at the raw file on the computer, that I see everything. David

Neither is a colour calibrated monitor and are primarily there to aid composition and exposure. Most times the picture viewed on a calibrated monitor screen will look different to what is seen on the camera as the monitor is showing more accurate colours.
