If I recall correctly, the files that I had more trouble opening (even in Resolve) were HLG MOV files that were 10bit 4:2:2. That is an option you can select in the video options part of the menu system. To open and edit with those you need the full version of Davinci Resolve, not the free one. I purchased it and have been very happy with it. The additional noise reduction tools are extremely useful and in a world where most software locks you in to permanent subscriptions, it is great to have a world class editor that you can buy just once and for a reasonable price.

I would suggest that if you do not want to use an editor that supports the chosen files, and you don't want to transcode, you just choose the mp4 settings in the Q2 video settings. Otherwise it seems a bit like swimming uphill. I agree that it is unlikely to make a massive difference in quality if you are not editing them much.

MOV files are usually larger and better quality… but not always

Thanks for your reply. I am not sure what you mean by earlier .MOV files? The .MOV files I am referencing are up-to-date set in my Q2 at H.264 4K, Quicktime or Photos are also up-to-date with macOS Sonoma. I can work around this problem by using VLC and or open them up with video editing apps like FinalCut or Premiere. I am grateful for your help with this.
