I have a Q2, which I purchased a few months ago, and I am interested in selling it. Truthfully, I’d rather sell it to a third-party business, than an individual. I’ve sold things on eBay and other similar sites in the past, and I really wasn’t happy with the experience. For what it’s worth, I’ve shot less than 1000 pictures on it, and it’s in near-mint shape. It’s just that I really want the Q3 with its tiltable screen. I think it will really help me for the type of photography I like to take.
So, any recommendations? Leica store? Or some other business business that you can recommend that pays decent prices? I really appreciate your help.  I know I’m going to take a hit on this. I’m just trying to minimize the amount of the hit.

I cannot help on any store recommendation, however, you are likely to take a bigger hit selling to a business. They need to make a margin on top of what they pay you and will not make that margin back through the sale price.

Have sold stuff through KEH…they just about always gave the best price.

But be prepared…you will take a hit. Dealers as has been mentioned want to make profit, but they also factor in the the fact that they usually offer some sort of used warranty.   So they have to factor in the person that buys a used camera, that fails a month later and the dealer eats the repair bill (which can be hundreds).

Generally I have found that you can make 30% more selling privately.

You can sell direct for cash to someone like www.MPB.com: they have to take into account both turnover and margins. Or you can send it to a dealer to sell on commission, who is less concerned to get turnover, makes more money the higher the price it eventually sells for, but has no incentive to sell quickly, so you may not get get quick cash. In both cases you will get less than selling through eBay, as the dealers offer the eventual buyer a warranty, and they have bricks and mortar to maintain - and bread to buy.

Talk to your nearest Leica AD about a trade. You know they will take care of you after you acquire a Q3 from them. They will likely give you a fair price for your Q2 if it's in good condition. Sometimes getting the last $ is not worth the angst or effort to do so.

I would be having a conversation with a local Camera outlet to establish what the "Trade-In" value they can offer.  Depending on your area "Sales Tax" costs,  you should get additional savings from the difference of Trade value and Retail.

Face to Face negotiating will usually serve you well.....

Thank you all so much for the advice.  I guess I will get some quotes from the places you mentioned, and also for a Leica dealer.  I am on the waiting list for a Q3, and, like LeChef mentioned, maybe that will make them more likely to be fair.

I really appreciate your help.
