atournas Posted April 5, 2024 Author Share #21 Posted April 5, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) From my experience, FS uses up all the available RAM, unless adjusted not to. I expect something similar with RL. I avoid installing Adobe software whenever possible, if only for the above reason. But I admit LR gallery management is difficult to get with other app. By the way, do people here run any LR alternatives?

jaapv Posted April 5, 2024 Share #22 Posted April 5, 2024 Most of the posts here are based on the conflation of the "traditional" structure of RAM to Apple's Unified Memory which is different. https://www.macobserver.com/analysis/understanding-apples-unified-memory-architecture/ As for the "out of memory" message the most common reason is usually a browser with too many tabs ope or a multitude of small processes each taking small amounts of memory individually tying up the system. Also the RAM allotment reserve set in Adobe products may be too high. It is a known bug of BIG Sur, which may have carried over into newer OS - although I have never seen it on Ventura. I would advise getting advice from a reliable seller, as the requirements are completely different from an Intel Mac. I have a M1 Mac Mini with 16 GB of RAM and have never experienced any trouble, despite having Chrome, mail, etc. open at the same time as Photoshop, ACR and Lightroom. Basically these high-specified Studio models are meant for professional movie- and 3D editing and not for con(pro)sumer use.
tangosix Posted June 1, 2024 Share #23 Posted June 1, 2024 M2 Ultra 64 GB here. I came from a MS Surface Studio maxed out. What can I say? My entire workflow has been upgraded. I delivered an entire wedding shoot in two days with video. I did not realize how much time I spent waiting before. If I were buying today I would increase RAM for future reasons even though I have no rationale to back it up. I don't get LR error messages. I love this machine.
