stray cat Posted March 28, 2024 Share #1 Posted March 28, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am extremely proud to announce that latest edition of the excellent, independently published “The Camera From Wetzlar” online magazine has published a portfolio of my pictures and a story I wrote to accompany them. The portfolio was made in Oaxaca, Mexico in 2011 when I was fortunate enough to attend a photo workshop hosted by the legendary Mary Ellen Mark. Here are the links. I hope anyone interested enough to read the article gets some enjoyment from it. The other articles in the magazine are extremely good and will be of particular interest to anyone in the Leica diaspora: - E-book: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iboCUwFZj_OOMjTZy4OoOxxMQfh9eOaO/view?usp=share_link - Pdf: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iCo0dFFLXJH5ZelcwjqzwQGlaOd49Au3/view?usp=sharing 14

adan Posted April 3, 2024 Share #5 Posted April 3, 2024 As Woody Allen said, "80% of success is just showing up!" You showed up.... ....at MEM's workshop ....in the streets and homes of Oaxaca ....on the doorstep of The camera from Wetzlar ....In the pages of The camera from Wetzlar ....on the cover of The camera from Wetzlar Very, very nice job! (And Woody was right, wasn't he? 😉)
stray cat Posted April 3, 2024 Author Share #6 Posted April 3, 2024 Thank you sincerely, especially David, pcgarner, Stuart and Adan. Woody was most certainly right - about success and about a good many things eg "Sex without love is a meaningless experience, but as far as meaningless experiences go it's pretty damn good." and "I don't want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it through not dying." I'd hazard a guess and say many of us continue pursuing this thing called photography because every now and then we make a picture that makes it seem as though all the ones that didn't work so well were just essential steps along the way. I've found through many years of trial and error that this picture is far less likely to happen if the showing up bit doesn't happen first. I say this, of course, sitting in front of a computer at home. 🙄 I really appreciate all your support and thoughts.

Not only was I very proud to have a story in the magazine, I just think an independent magazine written by Leica enthusiasts is a great thing to support, and I really look forward to future editions. Brian, I'm not familiar with the Who Am I? you mention and would be very interested to find out. Cheers, Phil

stray cat Posted May 2, 2024 Author Share #12 Posted May 2, 2024 That's really interesting and cool. I wrote lyrics there for a while. Just as the pictures we take, or at least the ones that reach the final edit, are all self-portraits, so I believe it is with music/lyrics. Or poetry, prose, sculpture etc - anything I guess to do with the artistic side of us.
