Folks

now that "For Sale" posts are not allowed on the forum, can anyone suggest a good place on the Internet to place a FS notice? (Not eBay, please!)

Thanks in advance.

John

You could try the buy and sell forum on Fred Miranda's site, you will have to register to access that section of the site though.

Buy & Sell - FM Forums

also try the Rangefinder Forum classifieds:

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost-classifieds/index.php

or Photonet:

Classified Ads

Oh, that's interesting, the board server converts two of the links into text!

I don't understand what the problem is will selling on e bay though? As long as you are specific in your terms, stick to trading within e bay, insist on payment by bank transfer (i.e. ignore e mail offers, dodgy sounding requests etc) and set a suitable reserve price you shouldn't have any problems.

:) I have a feeling that our esteemed Moderators, in particular Mr A Barton, could be rather touchy about this issue. And I really do value my membership of this Forum. However, if I were to say that the item in question has been used for all the photos I have posted here, you might get my drift and not think me rude ;)

John - Try Photonet giving precise details of the camera and your location but NOT full address until you have made email contact with a buyer.

My bona fides are solid on this issue of selling on the forum, because I posted a for sale as was counseled very nicely not to do it, and promised a clarification of the issue on the forum. And it is posted.

I understand the issue for Leica. They are will willing to pay to support this forum essentially to buy new kit from Leica. They understand very well there is an aftermarket, but they in a very focused way want to sell NEW Leicas to us through their established dealer network. If they were to be seen establishing a marketplace of ideas that also was a secondary marketplace for used Leicas, their authorized dealer network would eventually be upset at the channel competition.

So I am reacting to some of the posts here bemoaning the no selling rule on the forum. Our admins and moderators don't get paid for the work they are doing for us. We are making their job more difficult by being coy about attempts to sell. It would be better to not characterize a possible reaction by Andy B to future selling attempts unless he actually voices it.

It would be better to take the issue directly to Leica instead of bemoaning our extremely pleasant fate here, where we have a free, no paid subscription forum for photography and Leica Cameras

Oh gosh -

sorry chaps, this actually was a genuine enquiry, not a fishing attempt. I was just wondering (being no expert at all on the Internet side of things) whether there was another Forum like this which had a lot of UK members, where you could actually post FS notices. I do not want to get involved with overseas currency things and postage etc, so this would be UK only, and eBay stuff I know nothing about (and don't really want to). We used to have two photographic shops in Truro which did have s/hand stuff, and they have both gone, which is tragic because I could always find loads of things for my old cameras there, and sold quite a bit too. All we have now is a Jessops, and they have stopped doing s/hand gear altogether. I wonder if the classified ads in the "Amateur Photographer" would be any good? Has anyone ever tried them?

Hi John,

the nearest London Camera Exchange shop for you will be in Bristol. Quite a distance from Truro :-( I know them from their Guildford branch, where they always had some second hand stuff. But the expertise of the staff got worse over the years...

BTW: moderators should be moderate and no sheriffs. In the German forum they are. Why don´t you ask if your suggested price for exaktly these items in this condition is right on the second hand market outside? Tell things clearely and enable your e-mail-response :-)

For anybody who is coming new to this forum, LEICA is not present at all. I accept that there is no special Rubrik (in German, sorry) "Marketplace", but that should not hinder us from discussing prices for used gear. And remember: Nobody can expell you from reading this forum.

I think the LEICA point of view is wrong, even for their business and I stated that directly on the forum meeting at Hessenpark. The topic is still in discussion. Apologizing LEICAs current policy instead of bringing new, strong arguments against will not help to alter it. Don´t be too shy, too political correct!

Regards

Friedhelm
