Sorry...a camera is meant to be used, not protected like a valuable heirloom.

It's  like the person who spends more than they can afford on an expensive car and parks it a mile away so it doesn't get scratched...I just don't get it 😁

I belong to a few supercar clubs and have been lucky enough to own my fair share.  I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of owners that do not have paint protection film applied to their car.  It has nothing to do with whether you can afford the car, it has to do with wanting to use it in all conditions and know that the paintwork is protected from stone chips.  You could buy quite a few Q3s for the price of a respray on a McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Koenigsegg etc. You mistake wanting to use something as it should be used but wanting to protect its surfaces, with not wanting to use it at all and lock it away as an heirloom.

If people want to protect their camera then they should do so.  I protect mine as I chuck it in a backpack when travelling and I don't need to worry about the screens.

Q3 EVF also has a plastic lens according to Leica‘s CS.

Plastic? Seriously? 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have a protective film on my Q3 EVF. You need to trim around 2mm from the right edge so that the sensor that detects your eye isn't covered. It will then work.

This is so useful information! 👍

Having never achieved this (famous last words?), I am curious to know how users manage to scratch the glass of an EVF.

Sadly yes.  I just noticed these recently.  I didn't think I needed a screen protector for my EVF, I'm a little unimpressed with the quality of the glass here.  IT kind of looks like the coating on the glass was marred up.   That being said, I don't baby my Q3, I've traveled from Morocco to Cambodia  with it hanging around my neck or in my bag, I  carry it everywhere.  The marks don't hinder my viewing, I don't notice them when Im using my camera.  I've thought about buying an EVF protector but fear it's a little too late.  I'm sure it's outrageously expensive to have it fixed or replaced.  If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

I'm considering purchasing this exact EVF protector for my Q3 43. Have you experienced any problems with the EVF eye sensor or glare?

I haven't had any problems at all. As I said in my earlier post, you have to trim a couple of millimetres off the right side so that the small sensors are not covered otherwise the detection of your eye at the EVF won't work.

I just got my Q3 43 and had bought a 3rd party hot shoe mounted thumb grip (Leica was out of stock).   This thumb kit also came with a screen protector and EVF protector, so I thought "what the heck...".   The protectors seem like quality and went on easily and perfectly.   I was disappointed to find out that my Q3 perceived the EVF covering as my eye to the EVF.   The Auto EVF/LCD stopped working... would only display through EVF.   Likewise, EVF extended kept the EVF on all the time, thinking an eye was up to it.   I removed the EVF clear protector and EVF/LCD went back to functioning normally. It was very odd.

Yes, the TPU film protectors for the EVF do block the eye sensor, unfortunately. The suggested solution - cutting away part of the film to leave the sensors uncovered - is dodgy at best. Ignoring the unprotected area, the cuts slightly distort the plastic and dust etc can start to creep in underneath, potentially causing damage.

On the Q2M I used to have a plastic protector that I cut from a cheap phone screen protector. This seemed to work fine with the eye detect, even without a cutout. However, I am unable to find any such protector now, as they all seem to be tempered glass, which is basically impossible to cut for the shape of the viewfinder.

I would really like a proper solution to this. It is beyond frustrating that such a poorly protected and fragile surface has no means of protection - particularly given that my Q2M EVF repair (it basically wore away from carrying the camera on a strap - ie *normal* use) costs 650€ and four months.

Hi bcgr33n

I can see it’s your first post but you can’t just come in here with half a thing and keep us hanging like this. It’s cruel and unusual.

So anymore information on the EVF protector would, by me, be much appreciated.
