Johann Hermann Maack, 1864-68. Q2.

The current Lombardsbrücke divides the smaller and larger parts of the Alster, a river, which forms two lakes in the city centre of Hamburg, after an attempt to dam up the Alster for a mill went wrong in 1190. Before the 30-year-war 1618-48, it became part of the city fortification (Bastion Didericus), which was replaced by several wooden bridges.

It is not named after a famous person but after a pawn-shop, which stood here. Daily traffic is about 70 000 cars and 1 000 trains.

If you travel by train to Hamburg from the south and get out at Hamburg-Dammtor or -Altona rather than the main station, you can have a nice view of the Alster.

For me, nice photos accompanied by some explanation are always of interest. I know it's a "photo" forum but often the camera/lens does not appear let alone the name or location of the subject. I appreciate at least a location so I can look it up. Thanks
