Just today finally got my Q3. Upgraded from a Q2. So far my favorite feature is:

  • not the 60 mp
  • not the tiltable display
  • not the AF
  • not even the fact they have not changed the great lens 🙂

My favorite feature so far is:

  • The connection and transfer speed to Leica Fotos App!

This is really very usable now with DNG s and a game changer in my view as it connects quickly and the transfer speed is very good. + the App is simple and user friendly! Bravo! I think Leica understands that today's and even more tomorrow's workflow will all be mobile and wireless.

On my wish list now:

  • make my M11 and M11M as fast (I know probably not gonna happen as this is a hardware feature in the Q3 / SL3?)
  • make it even more seamless... e.g. enable an automatic background sync
  • for the future: Offer a cloud solution where photos get synced from the camera directly to a cloud storage. "Leica Cloud Fotos"? I would be willing to pay for that!

Thanks team Leica and congrats for your cameras + software actually arriving in the 21 century! 😉  Not something we can say about many other traditional camera manufacturers!!

Greetings from Munich

Andreas

I agree about the Fotos app. With my iPhone 15 It's lightning fast when transferring files and I've found that making and maintaining the connection is much more reliable than most other cameras I've used recently. The ability to transfer files without even switching the Q3 on is really handy and I've had no problem with battery life. The GPS coordinates transfer to the Q3 is also really good and I let it run permanently in the background on the iPhone, again with no discernible effect on battery life of the iPhone or Q3.

Enjoy the new Q3!

you can already do that via your smartphone but not directly without going trough the phone/tablet first.

but yes, I agree. The Speed of the wireless transfer, the usb-c charging/data interface makes this camera pretty "feature proof" and will offer great usability for years to come.

I wish that I was having good success with the Leica Fotos app but unfortunately that is not the case. When I first connect it will show all my pics in the gallery. But while connected and shooting additional photos, they do not transfer over automatically.  I need to close the app, restart it and reconnect. This has not always been the case and not sure when it started. I am running the latest version of the iPhone app and latest firmware on the Q3. Any suggestions appreciated.

I must be missing something, why would I want Q3 DNG files on an iPad or iPhone, there is too much information in them, I have to process on a real computer with a large monitor when the image is worthwhile... Otherwise, the geotagging works like a champ... I will, when appropriate use the phone as a remote control etc.

Yes. I tried the app earlier in the week and came to the same conclusion.

I use Lightroom on iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro. I upload raws/jpegs to Lightroom on iPhone using Fotos which I can then cull etc., and when I return home the photos are already synced to my laptop. Great for holiday photos when you don’t want to lug a laptop around with you, and also provides a good backup.

Agreed 100%.  I no longer bother taking out the SD card from my Leica Q3.  With the latest iOS app update, the speed is fantastic.  I can wirelessly transfer the files to my Mac from my FOTOS app, and everything is seamless.  I have a choice to import them to my phone or just transfer them to my Mac using the app.  I only wish it was the same as my M10 Monochrom.  The wireless transfer with that camera is so much slower than the Q3.  Worse yet, I have to activate it manually.  The app can wake up my Q3 when it is even off and connect with it wirelessly!  Love the new technology!
