Short summary:
Vintage casing, modern optics, solid mechanics (impression after 2 weeks of usage), really nice aperture diaphragm

Thanks for the review. I actually love the look of this lens. I also appreciate the "classic made modern" engineers. I just pre-ordered from B&H.

modern optics,

Very thorough and well-conducted review. Thanks!

However, I wouldn't say that the optics are modern. They are modern in terms of coatings (high flare resistance) but outright old-fashioned regarding the design (double Gauss).

Those old double gauss designs rarely feature ED or HRI elements.
Maybe have a look at the Light Lens Lab 50mm 2.0 SP II or the 50mm 2.0 Elcan, those I consider not modern.

Great review. So much competition in the fast 50 arena. The images look nice and personally, I like the bokeh but the minimum focus of 0.9m, the excessive focus shift and that infinity lock are dealbreakers for me.

Hello. You wrote about a large focus shift. Is it possible that you could have had a worse copy of this lens? I asked others who tested this lens and none of them noticed it. I was about to buy a 5cm Leitz summicron for my M3, but finding one without haze and a large number of scratches on the front lens can only be a miracle. I started thinking about this lens then

I doubt it.
The problem is rather that most people don't even know what focus shift is.
And as said: if you mainly shoot at f/2.0 - which I guess most people do - you won't notice it.

I wonder if they will release a version in LTM?  Seems like a no-brainer...

I too hope that they do. I have a recently serviced Reid IIIa body with no lens, and the Thypoch in LTM at around a quarter of the current price of an original TTH lens would be very attractive. I do have contemporary Leitz 50mm lenses that I can use with the Reid, but the TTH-based Thypoch would be closer to the original.
