Pieter12 Posted February 19, 2024 Share #1 Posted February 19, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK, so I pulled the trigger on a very nice S3. Second-hand, but looks brand new to me. It did not come boxed, and only with the battery & charger, no strap, cables or adapters. But it did come with a rather large piece of thin, soft black leather (not a chamois) with a Leica logo and a short loop/strap on one corner. I cannot fathom what this is for. Smells nice. Oh, and the GPS does not seem to work, although it did seem the correct time & date.
Advertisement Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 Hi Pieter12, Take a look here S3 Leather Square. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ImmerDraussen Posted February 20, 2024 Share #2 Posted February 20, 2024 The leather can be used to pack lenses or other gear.
Stuart Richardson Posted February 20, 2024 Share #3 Posted February 20, 2024 Can you take a picture of it? I bought an S3 new and do not remember that at all...
Guest Posted February 20, 2024 Share #4 Posted February 20, 2024 Maybe it is paying homage to the 19th century photographers who always covered their heads and the apparatus they were shooting with a black cloth? I would try it that way and see what happens... The S' GPS module is fickle. I had mine replaced after a trip to the Far East, but both modules on my 006 and 007 work quite well now, it just takes a while (sometimes 20 minutes or so) to catch on. Congratulations on the S3, btw.
ImmerDraussen Posted February 20, 2024 Share #5 Posted February 20, 2024 Leica is selling something like that for 150€. https://www.calumetphoto.de/product/leica-einschlagtuch/lei18549?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItvu7-766hAMVQKaDBx0GhQqVEAQYASABEgKSXfD_BwE
Pieter12 Posted February 20, 2024 Author Share #6 Posted February 20, 2024 That is it, exactly. Anyone interested in buying one?
Stuart Richardson Posted February 20, 2024 Share #7 Posted February 20, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Weird...mine certainly did not include that! Maybe that was something they added in different regions? Mine came from Leica France... And no thanks, I don't need that one!
Jeff S Posted February 22, 2024 Share #8 Posted February 22, 2024 Items bought from first owner directly, or from dealer? Owner could have bought it separately; dealer should know if selling it. Jeff
Pieter12 Posted February 22, 2024 Author Share #9 Posted February 22, 2024 Bought second-hand from MPB, who doesn't want it back!
Jeff S Posted February 22, 2024 Share #10 Posted February 22, 2024 Just thought either would know product and purpose. Jeff
Pieter12 Posted February 22, 2024 Author Share #11 Posted February 22, 2024 Immerdraussen pointed that out. Leica sells it as an all-purpose protective wrap, seems to be marketed for lenses and M size cameras mostly. https://leicacamerausa.com/leica-wrapping-cloth-leather-black.html

Pieter12 Posted February 23, 2024 Author Share #13 Posted February 23, 2024 I didn’t realize starting such an inquiry was such a big deal. I’ll mind my ps and qs next time.
