No more auto-magnification when focusing M lenses?

I know they disallowed magnification via the little rubber nub, but it also appears that the lenses don't auto-magnify when I start focusing with the focus ring? Settings show auto-magnification is enabled. What's up with this?

Probably because the body has no way of knowing when you are turning the focus ring? There's no electronic communication between lens and body, and I don't think there is a sensor to detect movement of the focusing cam.

Isn't auto magnify reacting to the movement of the rangefinder focus roller? At least that's how it works on my M246M

In the M that's how it works. There is no roller in the SL.

“No more auto-magnification when focusing M lenses?” …..M lenses can’t auto magnify when focusing on an SL. There is no coupling to the M lens to detect when it’s being focused on an SL. That’s different with an M body, of course, where auto-magnification exists in live view or the EVF. Personally I appreciate the latter, and find it much more convenient than always having to press a button on an SL to magnify.

OMG, I feel so dumb. I was totally misremembering. Yes, I always had to hit the rubber nubby button to punch in on the SL. I think my pre-caffeine brain crossed channels with the way the Q2 behaves when turning the focus ring. Mods feel free to delete this post. 🤦‍♂️
