I sent my D2 to Leica in New Jersey (USA) for sensor repair on August 3rd and their repair Estimate dated 6 Auggust says 4 to 5 weeks. I know they have sensor back order problems but isn't this getting a little long? What has been the turn around time others have had? I have gone to the web site and requested and update but still have not heard any response from that. Just curious.

I hate to spread gloom but if I calculate right I will next week be looking at 4 months since I sent in my D2. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the warrenty repair, and I understand the do a full checkout and conditioning at the same time, but the 4 months is a long way from the 4 to 5 weeks on the Repair Estimate sheet. I guess what bothers me the most is the long period with no update. An email just stating that - due to the large number of replacements and availability of sensors the repair of my camera will take much longer than originally estimated - would be greatly appreciated.

I will be excited when it does finally come back. I am missing my good friend.

I had a similar problem with my LC1. Sent it off to Chicago with credit card info and everything they requested. After 3 weeks I called them and they said "we don't take American Express" They were not going to tell me or call or e-mail. So I gave them a visa card and waited another month and called back again. "We are just getting to it." It took another 2 weeks.

But I love the camera! I bought an L1k in while waiting and I love that one too.

Out of the Panasonic 1 year warrantee, it cost over $400 USD for the sensor replacement, and a new LCD [i cracked that plastic cover], but well worth it. They even upgraded the firmware while they were repairing the camera.

My beloved child came back from NJ yesterday. I had almost forgotten what it looked like. Spent the evening resetting all the functions the way I like and getting the feel again Seems to be working just fine. So the total time gone was just 3 days shy of 3 months.
