aamwgm Posted January 23, 2024 Share #1 Posted January 23, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I've recently upgraded from a 28mm Elmarit f/2.8 (pre-ASPH) to the 28mm Summicron f/2 ASPH (used) and I received the lens yesterday. However, it seems to me that the Summicron is not focussing at infinity when I'm trying to: I'm noticing that faraway objects are out of focus, ever so slightly. At first I thought it was due to the lens being slightly softer wide open, but I stopped it down to f/4, all to no avail. I'd like to know if the lens is damaged so I can return it in time. Here's a screenshot comparing the two. I've also uploaded the raw files here. I'm new to the M system and I'm unsure what to do: and given this is a very large investment in a lens, I'd like to be sure that the lens is working as expected. Thank you. aamwgm Posted January 26, 2024 Author Share #3 Posted January 26, 2024 Update: I returned the Summicron and bought myself a brand new Elmarit 28 f/2.8 ASPH. Very happy with the lens so far: the size and weight are incredible and the lens feels great on an M10. Compared to my pre-ASPH Elmarit, it does seem a bit oddly perfect, though, but I need to spend more time with this lens.
aamwgm Posted January 31, 2024 Author Share #4 Posted January 31, 2024 Update 2: I had bought this used off MPB, and after returning the lens to them, I got in touch with them again to check if they could confirm my suspicions. They did: the lens is indeed miscaliberated.
