Pierre68 Posted January 16, 2024 Share #1 Â Posted January 16, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I noticed that when I store my SL2-S with the battery in, the batteries get drained after a few days... So I was wondering if it is better to store the batteries outside the cameras. Will the camera lose its setting (user presets, time, language, etc) if stored without battery. What do you guy and girls do? Edited January 16, 2024 by Pierre68

LocalHero1953 Posted January 16, 2024 Share #3 Â Posted January 16, 2024 Always in unless I forget. I've never noticed any drain. I worry far more about taking the cameras with me and finding the battery missing. At least with tw SD cards that risk is halved - there's a back-up if I leave one SD card in the card reader - which I often do, 2
Stuart Richardson Posted January 16, 2024 Share #4 Â Posted January 16, 2024 Battery in, never had a problem with drain in the SL2. The Panasonic S1 drains it like hell though. Completely dead after a week or two, so with that camera I store with it out.
Eclectic Man Posted January 16, 2024 Share #5 Â Posted January 16, 2024 There is a setting on the camera that enables a quick start-up or 'wake up'. Â I read some posts a few years ago that this would drain the battery in a few days if left on. Â I'll have a look when I get back from an appointment this afternoon, but checking the manual and the old threads on this site wold be a good idea. Almizilero Posted January 16, 2024 Share #8 Â Posted January 16, 2024 I remember from my Sony days that there were certain third party lenses that caused overnight battery drain for some reason. I think there even came a firmware update for a lens that took care of it. So maybe check if it is connencted to one of your lenses or try if it happens without a lens attached as well. If so, I'd say there is something wrong with the battery.

So better keep it in the body. And no (practical) loss of power, as far as I have noticed. This holdes for all three incarnations of the SL. But I keep the body in off-mode when not in use. Geoff C. Bassett Posted January 16, 2024 Share #11  Posted January 16, 2024 SL2. Keep the battery in an it has not been an issue. Then again I rarely leave it unused for days on end. So I probably would not notice a slight drain over the coarse of several days
Eclectic Man Posted January 16, 2024 Share #12  Posted January 16, 2024 (edited) The SL2 manual, page 194 onwards describes Bluetooth connection.  Remote camera activation works even when the camera is turned off, so it will be eating up power all the time. Check that you have turned Bluetooth off, and that the 'remote camera activation' described on page 196 in that section is disabled. I leave the battery in the camera all the time and have not had any trouble with it discharging while off.  Of course long exposures at night in the cold  are another thing entirely.
