JulianHalliday Posted January 16, 2024 Share #1  Posted January 16, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently installed the firmware update in my SL2-S, and all seemed to be going well -- I've not had time to test the supposedly improved tracking, but one has hopes. However, this morning I picked up the camera and turned it on. There was something I wanted to photograph. I was surprised to see the LCD displaying the "Welcome to Leica SL2-S" graphic, which one sees on first startup after a firmware update. Naturally, I then looked to see if my profiles were intact -- I was fairly sure they wouldn't be and, of course, they weren't. The battery was half-charged, but even had it not been I couldn't see why it'd make a difference. My only candidate for causing this, then, is the recent firmware update to 6.0.0. Am I unique in experiencing this? Naturally, from now on I'll do what I should have done in the first place, and export my profiles to store on my laptop. Not that having to rebuild them is a big deal -- I find ways to improve them each time I do it. But it does worry me that, if there is a bug in the firmware, it might in future produce more dire consequences. And I really want to have a working camera.

feelssadman Posted January 27, 2024 Share #3 Â Posted January 27, 2024 (edited) I've had this happen with an SL2 at an assignment and consequently never trusted it anymore. However, it also didn't happen anymore after that. Edited January 27, 2024 by feelssadman
jaapv Posted January 29, 2024 Share #4  Posted January 29, 2024 It does indeed sound like the camera updating the lens firmware. I have had it happen on my CL and SL both, and the SL2 seems to do the same. It does look to be planned behavior which has no bearing on reliability.
Photoworks Posted January 30, 2024 Share #5  Posted January 30, 2024 I had the SL2 with new Firmware, Put on the Summicron SL APO 50 and it was showing f1 on the top screen, Starge! i was not shooting, took the lens off and went back to a different lens. After the shoot I tested the 50 again, lens update started and than it finished. after camera restart the the lens had an error screen and was not be able to use anymore on any of the cameras. I have updated all the other leica, Panasonic and Sigma lenses. Welcome, dear visitor! Malabito Posted January 30, 2024 Share #6 Â Posted January 30, 2024 yes same happened to me after it reseted once, i did loaded all my profiles and played with the camera, i turned it off and turn it on again and it reseted again. Same happened with previous firmware update. I think it has to do with the lens firmware upgrade. Â Â
