Ian Piper Posted January 12, 2024 Share #1 Posted January 12, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't generally insure my cameras separately as they are covered by my home insurance, but I am thinking of taking out a policy to cover my Q3. Do any UK forum members insure their Leica kit, and if so can you recommend an insurance provider? Thanks, Ian.

newtoleica Posted January 12, 2024 Share #2 Posted January 12, 2024 Simplest and cheapest to add it as an 'all risks named item' under your house policy.
Hans-Dieter Gülicher Posted January 12, 2024 Share #3 Posted January 12, 2024 Since about 65 years I am running around with my big boys (today M 10-R, S3 etc.) not only in Europe. There was never an insurance and I had never a problem.

Glover and Howe in Colchester are very good but not cheap, had to claim for a Macbook recently, straightforward, fast payout. I've got all of my gear insured with them plus public liability as an add on. Have to specify anything worth over £1000 and give serial numbers. Nearly all non-collectible cameras are depreciating assets and cumulative insurance premium costs will eventually exceed their values. I stopped insuring my cameras years ago. Marc B-C Posted January 12, 2024 Share #6 Posted January 12, 2024 I agree with what @newtoleica says but also ask what do you think you will gain by stand alone insurance?

andybarton Posted January 17, 2024 Share #8 Posted January 17, 2024 I used to have my cameras insured separately, via a specialist insurer, but the cost was absolutely ridiculous. It was about £50 per month IIRC and I don't have collections like a lot of folk here do. So, I just put them onto my household contents insurance - worldwide cover, new for old replacement - and it hardly made any difference to my premium. Certainly not an extra £600 per year. (That's via AXA, btw) If you're a professional, you will need to have the usual business insurances and public liability etc, so that's a different matter completely.
