I bought a Q2M from DigiDirect in Melbourne in Nov last year. As soon as I open the box, I found finger prints all over on camera body and lens. I contacted the seller. The contacted Leica wholesale. Leica immediately replace the this camera (made in Oct. 2023) with an older version (made in April 2021). I did not open the box till Dec. and tried to test shooting. I found two very tiny marks on lens hood like marks made by a sharp object. I contacted Leica directly, expressed my concern that this camera was refurbished. Leica qaranted that the camera is brand new but they missed the check of hood. They will replace the hood for me. But I am not convinced how could a brand new camera came with a faulty hood? I have bought several Nikon, Sony, Fujifilm cameras in the past 30 years and a Leica M6. None of them had such quality problem.

What should I do? Ask Leica to replace again? Or refund?

Jack

Wouldn't want you as a customer...and I've been a Leica dealer for 30 years.

Multi thousands of dollars for a Leica camera, imho I would like it to be visually perfect.. Can you imagine a RR being newly delivered with a scratch and the dealer saying - so what!  🍷

Hey Indeepthought,

after the first camera was replaced I would have opened the next one immediately.
that said: I would call them and ask them what to do. I am sure they give you a new camera.
Me: I know that my cameras don’t stay mint very long.
I had Olympus (Om2 and om3) dust and scratches and my Canons look used too.

So I see these cameras as tools and I enjoy giving them marks.

the thing that I don’t understand is: why Leica does not put one or two layer of paint more on their cameras. Especially on the edges.

I find that they get scratches very easy.

on the other hand the canons where made out of plastic and had round corners.

cheers 🥂

Quite honestly, when new and being unboxed for the first time, I would expect the unit to be 100% visually perfect..  once it was being used then it gets the life I dictate. If a Pany can come out of the box visually perfect so should a Leica.. No excuses or mumbles.. A Leica dealer saying he wouldn't want you as a customer because you want a New/Boxed  unit without visual flaws, imho, I would move onto another dealer.

We always take cameras/lenses out of the box to ensure the serial numbers are correct (sometimes they aren’t).

Sorry if we didn’t get every fingerprint off the camera.

As well many dealers on hard to get items have to demo to a customer stock…what do you suggest we do with these items..bin them?

The fact that he’s had issues with two cameras for really…nothing…we have lots of people who are thankful to get a camera.

Well if your staff can't remove fingerprints from a New Demo/For Sale Leica, maybe some retraining might be relevant! You Sell Cameras - You really mean to tell me that hard times have relegated your customer service/satisfaction/priority to a minus minimum!   🍷

Perfect is sometimes unobtainable, Imho, the attitude is what bothers me - 'So What'

Not a matter of ‘so what’…but the old saying ‘the customer is always right’ isn’t always true.   Some have expectations that are totally unreasonable.

For example…easy to find out if the first camera (fingerprints)…what was the shutter count.  If it was hundreds…it was a returned camera.  If it was 0 (or under 10) it was a camera that had been taken out of the box to be inspected or shown to someone…but it is a new camera and expect it to be replaced because it had a fingerprint…I have a lot of longtime (as in 20+ years) that appreciate what we do in fact do for them.

Sorry if that isn’t up to your standard.

It wasn’t MY standards that were put into question, just sounds to me that a blasé attitude has crept in when a customer hands over many thousand's of dollars for a New Leica..

My Leica experience with Harrods London, Miami Leica, B&H and a few other Leica dealers here in the USA has always been ‘white glove’ ~~ 🍷

See, there’s the difference.  My customers are pros, industrial, law enforcement and government.  They come to me to solve their photo problems, they are nor worried about white glove treatment.

We’re coming from two different perspectives of what the customer wants.

Too funny.
Here are some of my customers:

https://www.christophebenard.com
https://www.ulanphoto.com

https://alert-ab.ca

https://oemreman.com

Literally millions of dollars.

And yet in 30 years no one has complained about a finger print.  Like I said, I sell cameras to people who use them…we’re not a boutique catering to amateurs.

Sorry if that offends you

Hey, I’m not offended.  Just gobsmacked at the hypocrisy …
