SG1 Posted January 7, 2024 Share #1 Posted January 7, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I have setup my connection to my iPhone (15 Pro) for both wired and wireless connections with my Leica Q3 camera. I am seeing that the transfer speed while using wireless connection is many times faster than the transfer speed while using the USBC cable connection. The USBC cable is the official Apple provided (USBC-to-USBC) so I know that not the issue. Anyone else is seeing something similar? Thank you! huwm Posted January 7, 2024 Share #2 Posted January 7, 2024 I tend to use sd card reader/usbc as faster than both

This is exactly your issue. This is a charging cable not intended for data transfer. If you want faster speeds, get a usb-c data cable that is capable of 10Gbps as that is what I believe the iPhone 15P is capable of.
SG1 Posted January 7, 2024 Author Share #4 Posted January 7, 2024 (edited) I thought that the USBC cable provided by Apple is a data cable. Anyway, I have a Thunderbolt3 data cable that I use to connect my external SSD drive and the speed is low - the same. Can you tell me what cable are you using for this? Maybe even this one is not right. Thanks! Edited January 7, 2024 by SG1

The included cable is USB 2 speed (480Mbps, 60MB/s max). From what I'm seeing, the Q3 supports 35MB/s max over Wi-Fi, so it's strange that Wi-Fi is outperforming even the USB 2 cable... Generally speaking, if you want to maximize speeds you'll need something that supports USB3 like this. Edited January 7, 2024 by anonymoose
SAronian Posted January 7, 2024 Share #6 Posted January 7, 2024 Finding a single cable to support high-speed data and high power delivery at a reasonable price can be difficult. This one works well for my Q3 and Nikon Z8 for direct transfer and charging with my MacBook Pro. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CDCBPJC6/

SG1 Posted January 7, 2024 Author Share #8 Posted January 7, 2024 No. It's set on Apple MFi mode - otherwise it does not connect with the iPhone.

I don’t have the 15 Pro but an M1 iPad and it certainly works with both the Files App and LR Mobile
SG1 Posted January 8, 2024 Author Share #10 Posted January 8, 2024 Hi again, I also sent this question to Leica customer support and I received the following response: " Thank you very much for your e-mail. It is correct, the transfer speed via USB-C cable is currently much slower than the wireless transfer speed. This will be fixed via firmware 2.0 for which I do not yet have a release date. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. " Looks like this is a real problem they are planning fix sometimes hopefully soon... In regards to the last comment - yes, if we put the camera in USB storage mode, we are seeing is in Files and can download them this way. But we cannot see the photos from the Leica FOTOS camera. Thank you for the community help!
Qwertynm Posted January 8, 2024 Share #11 Posted January 8, 2024 vor einer Stunde schrieb SG1: But we cannot see the photos from the Leica FOTOS camera What’s the point in importing them to the Fotos app? Afaik you can’t do anything with dngs there and the app will prompt you to send them to LR or Darktable anyway? So import them directly to the App you‘re going to edit them with or if you just want to keep a copy on your phone import them to the Files App.
SG1 Posted January 8, 2024 Author Share #12 Posted January 8, 2024 You are bringing a good point! Never used the "Files" app for anything. And once the files are in the cloud we can see them everywhere (even on the Mac) - I need to experiment this usage model. I transferred one file and it's really fast. So the issue might be connected to Fotos... Thanks!
