willeica Posted April 26, 2024 Share #41 Posted April 26, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) One for your opinion, Pierre. It is described as 'Luxus' in parentheses. It is also stated that "It is worth noting that the gold plating is in the same matte-gold finish as we know from the cameras officially made for Leitz company." To me this means that this is not a genuine Luxus, just that it has some similarities to one. The expected price also confirms this. https://www.ostlicht-auction.com/auction/lot/lot-36---leica-iiia--mooly-gold-set/?lot=1772&so=0&st=&sto=0&au=16&ef=&et=&ic=False&sd=0&pp=96&pn=1&g=1 Welcome, dear visitor! dubois pierre Posted April 27, 2024 Author Share #42 Posted April 27, 2024 Yes Will, of course. You are right.
PG Black nickel Posted April 27, 2024 Share #43 Posted April 27, 2024 When you look at the serial numbers, the camera is from 1936, the Mooly is from 1939 and the lens is from 1948, so it's not really a matching number! But is this the case on the original Luxus II or III? Having said that, it's a beautiful showcase object.

dubois pierre Posted April 29, 2024 Author Share #45 Posted April 29, 2024 😗No limits for this Leica Standard which is a unique and completely crazy order. It is 24 carat gold plated covered with green snake skin. A removable silver case protects the camera, finely chiseled and covered with Baltic stones. It is equipped with a SCNOO sole and a Fofer rangefinder (Personnal archives). Welcome, dear visitor! Pintpot Posted April 29, 2024 Share #46 Posted April 29, 2024 Wow! Thanks Pierre. But with that much 'bling' it's not a street shooters camera then 😁

The other day I was having fun teasing fellow LSI members over putting black tape over red dots on Leicas. In this case you would not know where to put the black tape 😇 William
dubois pierre Posted April 30, 2024 Author Share #48 Posted April 30, 2024 No William, I noted in the description (Personal archives). I had it in my collection but sold it a few years ago.

The latest ones are from Alan Stokes (LSI menber) whom I thank. https://sites.google.com/view/letonnantehistoiredesleicaslux/accueil I'm curious if you've ever come across anything like the camera in this old thread on photo.net: https://www.photo.net/forums/topic/428802-real-or-fake/ It appears to be a custom 'IIb' that was left unchromed by the factory as a special order, leaving the brass finish (see reply apparently from the Leica Archive in this post). A 'poor man's Luxus?' (well, probably not that poor - I doubt custom jobs were cheap even then). It is described as 'upgraded from an earlier Leica II body', though its current serial number is in the IIIb range from 1938. No slow speeds (though there is provision for them in the body shell under the cover), and no strap lugs. There's a matching brass Elmar, but according to the Archive email this was 'added to the camera at some later time'.

I was just making a joke at the expense of people who feel it necessary to disguise the fact that the camera they are using is a Leica.
