newtoleica Posted December 28, 2023 Share #1  Posted December 28, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a space in my gear that is for a small light, single lens, AF, EVF full frame camera. I use it when hiking, as an all day carry and when I want to take family pictures on a trip. My M10-P is my main camera. For a while that has space has been filled with a Sony RX1Rii, nice Zeiss 35mm lens and small/light. However I’ve long been fed up with its ludicrous battery life (about 40 shots), sluggish AF in low light (none), lack of weather sealing and rather small EVF. Trade offs. I have been looking at the Q3 reviews and was quite concerned about the long black out (something I find irritating). I had a Q2 for a bit 3 years ago and blackout was a bit of an issue and I sold it to get back into the M system instead (to be fair it was during lockdown and I don’t think any gear got a proper try out). However the need for occasional AF and the added virtue of weather sealing had me looking at the Q again. I have a session I must shoot at midnight on 1 Jan as part of a long-standing group project (http://www.24photography.org) and it’s going to be very wet in London, very… so didn’t want to risk the M10-P. So happily I just managed to get a brand new, never used, never registered Q2 for just £3,500 in London. Picked it up last night. It will replace the Sony. The 35mm frame line is v similar to shooting an M with the added value of a wider crop when you want it. I think the Q2 will suit me at least as well as the Q3 if not better and the £1800 still in my pocket (and availability) is a nice bonus…. So Hi Q forum!
Advertisement Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 Hi newtoleica, Take a look here Just bought a new Q2 in Dec 23. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Patrick NL Posted December 28, 2023 Share #2 Â Posted December 28, 2023 Congratulations! That blackout issue, I have no issues I must say. A Q3 is not the fastest camera in the world, but fast enough for what I do. If there is a thing, i would say the startup-time is a bit long.
Chris W Posted December 28, 2023 Share #3 Â Posted December 28, 2023 Great find. I was going through some of my original Q files yesterday and love the sharpness and colours. I would rebuy a Q1 if it wasn't for the 28mm view, which was why I sold my Q. Â

Daviduk Posted December 28, 2023 Share #5 Â Posted December 28, 2023 I have also just purchased a Q2, my first Leica (used, but in perfect condition), and I must say, I am rather pleased with my purchase. I have a Sony A1 & A9, but they aren't the best devices for walking around streets whilst trying to be invisible. Happy hunting. 2

Since the latest firmware update the startup issue is solved! 🥰

Startup times are EXACTLY what they used to be before on the Q3. Whoever thought it was resolved did not wait for 12 hrs for the camera to power down properly. After that period, start up time is more or less the same as before.
