davidrc Posted December 1, 2023 Share #1 Posted December 1, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Just received a sigma lens with the above post title functions. Since a manual won’t cover (and nothing with the lens) any details of auto and manual usage. While the package thaws out 😂 I was thinking how members like to use such? Anything I should avoid doing. It is an L mount, but Leica L mounts don’t have aperture rings.
Advertisement Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 Hi davidrc, Take a look here CL and using a sigma lens with a aperture ring and A setting ( or any other applicable items to topic). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wda Posted December 1, 2023 Share #2 Posted December 1, 2023 If set on A, you will enjoy automated aperture selection. Alternatively, you have aperture priority or manual control. Enjoy your new lens . Which model did you get?

Put simply, if you put the lens to A - the camera controls aperture in the same way as TL or other L mount lenses without the Aperture Ring, in whatever mode you are shooting, or you can use the aperture ring to override. Aye, i’m surprised. It is much better in use than a non aperture lens. I hadn’t realised how much the TL lens was slowing me down and missed using the aperture. Beyond that I did wonder and reason for the question, was I going to find something deeper which would not work quite the same way. The switch on the lens, like the lens is very well made. I can recommend it. Its ergonomics are first class. Aside, in searching out here for lens hints and tips (most appreciated), being new into this L and CL area - you have provided a heck of an amount of L and M examples on flickr. Most enjoyable viewing your photos of your dogs. Much can be gained from the items people use, an insight into system lenses. I was prompted to the Sigma 24mm f3.5. It is a perfect size. It is not exactly a 35 FOV, (or my Fuji 23mm pushes a bit wider at the same time) But I don’t think a bit less FOV than I am used to will hinder. As to a 23 TL comparison and the R lenses, the Sigma is way more consistent to the 23TL I had. Whether other L lenses have the Leica look or not. I can’t see much difference. Software, computer, too many variables. I note all the different lens types you use, (canon aside) and there isn’t much difference. I think only one lens could replace the sigma and that is the 24 M elmar 3.8. I can see around much variation in using adapted lenses, good and weaker, so it needs looking into. My R 50 cron is excellent on the CL. But a 35mm elmarit produces uneven focus from left to right. But, as bad is that it is tricky to focus with……so I wonder about M wide angle lenses? thanks, and for those dogs!

Alternatively, you have aperture priority or manual control. Enjoy your new lens . Which model did you get? Hi, I decided on as close to 35mm FOV as possible. So it was the 24mm Sig L f3.5. So there is more too it than 1mm, as the Fov is more like 37/38 fov. It looks great in the EVF and I can live with a bit of field missing. The f3.5 may end up restricting, but we shall see. The lens is quite sharp across the frame wide open, it may not be a better M lens, but the shooting experience is as important to me. So the advise I was given here was spot on. And a review I saw of the lens and one for the other sigma 24mm 1.4 wider aperture pointed to the 3.5 being a more consistent performer. F2 would have been ideal, but not available other than then TL which I wouldn’t try again (not sharp but has a look about it) The 45mm is a bit short perhaps, if it follows the same path as some some clipped off when on a CL. I have the R 50 cron which gets me a shot tele when needed, now that has a butter sharp focus in nice light. I will share more. Winter frost here. With the R. Welcome, dear visitor! davidrc Posted December 1, 2023 Author Share #6 Posted December 1, 2023 I would also add that is seems to blur a background out a tad more. With a strong foreground interest focussed on, it does provide a smooth backround.

Thank you David, glad you enjoyed the dogs.😃 I haven't tried the Sigma 24mm 3.5, but everything I've seen from it looks good. I do have the 24 Elmar M though haven't used it often on the CL, it's a nice lens.

The Sigma punches way above it’s weight. @ £340 inc for a barely used one it was a find. You can easily tweak the files in LR for look you want. Very forgiving from a short usage. The frozen leaf in this string is from the R. Gorgeous on large screen. With all the adapting that you do and others, does any adapting fall foul of just ‘not being compatible? Results on the CL with a R 35 elmarit. Probably an 80’s lens didn’t fare too well….the R 50 cron romped home a winner. Plenty have used wider angled. I wonder if i’m missing a trick. Being part of the forum has really helped. I could give you chapter and verse about Hasselblad film cameras after 30 years, but a with new system it’s all about fact finding.
