DreiPunkte Posted October 31, 2023 Share #1 Posted October 31, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there any difference between the two other than the larger wheel diameter? I'm just waiting for my rangefinder, which looks like a fofer. I want to use it with my Elmar 90mm/4 because my distance estimation sometimes fails. My Camera is an MD-2 and I do mostly wideangel work. Is there anything to mention when it arrives? Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 Hi DreiPunkte, Take a look here Fodis or Fofer. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
spydrxx Posted October 31, 2023 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2023 I've found often with old rangefinders two things need attention, namely: thewinows and mirroes need cleaning, and often the rangefinder wheel needs adjusting. Usually easy to do by setting it on the camera on a tripod, measuring the distance from the film plane mark Whenever I've received a "new" ancient viewfinder, I need to do two things, namely: clean the mirrors and viewing windows, and adjust the distance wheel to an accurate measurement. I've done this by mounting the rangefinder onto a camera, and measuring the distance from the film plane mark on the camera to a relatively close object with a tape measure, then viewing the object with the rangefinder. If the wheel distance doesn't match the actual distance, I adjust it so it does. Then I do a final check at an object near optical infinity (1000xthe focal length of a normal lens or greater). If the wheel is at infinity, all is good. Doesn't always work...but more often then not the wheel is spot on at most, if not all, distances. Enjoy your rangefinder.
