I think I may start playing around with them, especially high contrast b/w as I think Leica probably does a good job with that conversion and I'm moving away from spending so much time in post especially using SilverEfex to process my b/w images.

Wondering what others make of regular and high contrast b/w, as well as other Looks and also Leica scenes.

but you can choose film style - high contrast black/white, and I thought that the image would be processed that way so that when I download from the card that processing is preserved?

JPEG only. The Raw files don’t retain any of the Leica looks or film styles.

I don't agree. I snapped an image using high contrast B/W, then downloaded the image which is not JPG, but rather, DNG - Leica's RAW format. And open it in Photoshop brings it into Adobe Camera Raw. Clearly it is a RAW image and it retains the black/white processing.

This is also verified in Chris Nicholl's review on PetaPixel of the M11-P where he talks about using film styles on its RAW images which is where I got the idea to try it with my Q3.

Sorry, but you are wrong. What you are seeing is a small JPEG preview embedded in the DNG file. As soon as you edit the DNG the JPEG preview will disappear.

yes and no. Attached is a screen shot of the b/w DNG image opened in ACR. The b/w image is open although at the bottom, file size says 8.7 mp

So if I want a full size b/w image, are you saying that can only be accomplished via the Fotos app? I'm not clear on this

If this is a B&W DNG, why is the profile Adobe Color? The histogram also shows color channels.

Adobe LR/CR does not recognize Q3 color profiles. There is something like "Embedded" that can be selected - but the colors are different from the OOC colors.

I guess using a black and white cat to test color v's black and white wasn't the best choice of subject :)

actually it's a chihuahua :)

so you're saying that if I have the cam save both a DNG and JPG when shooting b/w, I'll get a full size b/w JPG?

Oops, please apologise to your dog on my behalf :)

Yes, you'll get a DNG image and also a JPEG image based on the selected film style. You can set the resolution/size of the DNGs and JPEGs in the camera menu.

actually now that I think about this (waking up my brain that was on auto pilot), of course a DNG isn't black/white since it's the entire digital file produced by the cam. So to have a full size JPG in b/w out of the camera, the camera has to create a b/w JPG from the full digital file.

Here's a screenshot of the JPG opened in PS, plus screenshot of image sizse
