jaapv Posted October 21, 2023 Share #2 Posted October 21, 2023 You cannot print from a raw, it must be converted to a printable format first. With competent processing using AI techniques like LR Enhance or Topaz Gigapixel and noise control like Topaz Photo AI ,you can easily make prints up to A3+ or more.
wda Posted October 21, 2023 Share #3 Posted October 21, 2023 Or with basic processing, A4. I have used Blow-up after slight cropping, but later tools are better.
Stuart Richardson Posted October 21, 2023 Share #4 Posted October 21, 2023 (edited) There are no hard and fast rules with printing. Certain images with fewer details can be printed very large from small files, while those with lots of fine detail that you want sharp might be more challenging. The biggest variable in printing is really client expectation. Some people are very picky and some people are happy with essentially anything. I have had clients ask me to make 1 meter wide enlargements of still frames from standard definition videos (720x480 pixels), and others who want everything at 600dpi and both have been very happy with the results. Can you say a bit more about what you want to do? As a baseline for most people, I would say 180dpi or so is a reasonable max for high quality. That is around 30x40cm. Double or triple that if you are willing to see softness and artifacts (even with AI, about which Jaap and I disagree about the utility, lol) Edited October 21, 2023 by Stuart Richardson
jrethorst Posted October 21, 2023 Share #5 Posted October 21, 2023 I've gotten nice 16 x 20 inch prints from D2 jpegs. A tech at the lab where I printed them looked at the files and said I could print up to 18 x 24.
