I'm still trying to get into street photography a bit more and while I'm most comfortable with street portraits (i.e. I ask for the picture first), I still feel that this takes away much of the authenticity of capturing an uncomposed scene. I still have problems with shooting strangers without consent, so that is one of my main problems. The other one is identifying interesting scenes on the fly. So I used a holiday in Marseille and happily shot away. The results are mostly rather uninteresting pictures of people rushing by, staring at their phones, so I won't bother you with those. While some of them had interesting people in them, they lacked some kind of story, which I think is the key to good street pictures. These photos, while far from perfect, are the ones that gave me joy when I found them on my SD card. I hope you enjoy them, too, but I'm very open to criticism since I'm still at the very beginning of this exciting journey.
All shots were taken with the Tri-Elmar MATE which turned out to be a perfect travel companion.

(Full disclosure: most of these are cropped to some degree, because I'm still hesitant to approach people to closely.)

I note how unobtrusive you are!

Yeah, I try to go unnoticed for these kinds of shots. But also, most of them are 50mm and cropped, so I wasn't as close as it might seem (except the last, which is 35mm).

Very nice, especially #2, 5 & 6.  You can begin to increase your comfort by approaching people who look like they want to be noticed and asking to take their photos.

That's actually what I ususally do and what I feel much more comfortable with. When I see interesting people, I ask them for a portrait and send them the picture afterwards. I have to deal with a lot of rejection this way and it's a different kind of picture than the ones just shot in the moment, but I feel much safer that way.
