peggers Posted September 30, 2023 Share #1  Posted September 30, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) After an amazing 3 months with my SL2-s, today a black vertical line appeared down the middle of the back LCD. I was reviewing images back at home and it just appeared mid session. I’ve reset the camera, installed latest firmware etc…but looks like it will need to go back. Clearly it doesn’t impact taking photos, but does anyone have recent experience of repair under warranty repairs in terms like of timing? Many thanks, Phil (UK based)

Steven Lane Posted October 1, 2023 Share #2  Posted October 1, 2023 Hi Phil, my own experience of Leica’s warranty repairs have been with my X1 camera just after purchasing it new, and my SL 75 Summicron APO lens that broke when it was about 18 months old. Both had to be sent to Germany and took around three months to repair. My 75 is currently back with them as it has broken again but it is now out of warranty. I have been quoted a similar turnaround time…not impressed at all with the quality of the SL APO lenses, particularly as it has seen very little use. Regards, Steve
trickness Posted October 1, 2023 Share #3 Â Posted October 1, 2023 Yeah took about three months to get my Q2M back from Leitz as well, although it had to make a stop in New Jersey first.
Photoworks Posted October 3, 2023 Share #4 Â Posted October 3, 2023 Some repair and calibration can be done a local leica service centers. they are usually quicker. Most SL system needs to be sent to Germany for repair and Calibration. 3-6 months is normal. I currently have a flash and 24-90 in for service
peggers Posted October 5, 2023 Author Share #5  Posted October 5, 2023 Thanks for sharing those times - what I had kind of feared.  And now just as I started to prepare the camera to take to show my dealer (LCE in Bristo) lo and behold the line flicked away as I was scrolling around an image.  Was it a software glitch or hardware? Gotta love an intermittent problem! So I’ll hang on for a while - I’m only 3 months in and have really bonded with this camera. Much to my surprise it re-ignited my passion which had faded to the point I was about to sell up all my gear - much to my wife’s chagrin!  I have a single 35mm SL Cron non-APO lens. And apart from this now disappeared line it might be stealing the crown from the M9M as favourite ever Leica…
huwm Posted October 6, 2023 Share #6  Posted October 6, 2023 That's my favourite lens for the sl2s
petereprice Posted October 19, 2023 Share #7 Â Posted October 19, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is one of the main reasons why I would be hesitant to use the SL2 or SL2-S for serious professional work. Â It's one thing to have to send in your M camera which is often one's personal camera doing personal projects, but an SL series is supposed to be competing with the likes of Nikon, Canon and Sony who all have Pro Support programs with fast turnarounds and loan programs while your camera is away. Â Additionally it's financially easier to even buy spares of those brands, because they are generally cheaper than the Leica bodies. Â I think for most it would be financially straining to purchase 2-3 SL bodies to ensure you have proper redundancy. I think in order to get a loan from Leica during your 3-6 month repair, you'd have to have a tight business relationship with them. Â Like the professionals, you might see in their marketing video case studies. Â With that said, I do love that SL system! Â Just wished it had more resources dedicated to it. Â Then I'd make a total switch to it.
Photoworks Posted October 20, 2023 Share #8  Posted October 20, 2023 A quick update on my SL lens repair. The 24-90 reached 3 months and I got a service email that the Part for the repair has not been in stock for some time. They offer a replacement lens for the price of the repair, which I accepted. I sent it my 3rd SF-60 flash, but it didn't turn on anymore, the repair estimate said that it couldn't be fixed and was out of warranty. that is going on the pail of dead Leica for Halloween.
