maxfairclough Posted September 26, 2023 Share #2 Posted September 26, 2023 Mate, literally going through this now. All I am saying is good luck. Parts not in until at least January.
scvpic Posted September 26, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted September 26, 2023 Okay. I was able to move the curtain slightly backwards, releasing the film. Then I opened the back door and was able to see the film was not loaded correctly and not being taken up. Camera functioning fine now.
madNbad Posted September 26, 2023 Share #4 Posted September 26, 2023 First, welcome to the forum. Secondly, follow Leica's loading instructions. Remove the baseplate, start by inserting the cassette just enough you can pull the leader across to drop through the tulip prongs, seat the cassette in the well, insuring it's in contact with the rewind crank. Replace the baseplate and wind. Check the rewind to make sure it's moving. No need to open the door and try to align the film. No need to start advancing the film before replacing the baseplate. There is a ton of information on LUF about loading the camera. It's unfortunate it happened but a good reminder to all of us. 1
250swb Posted September 26, 2023 Share #5 Posted September 26, 2023 (edited) In addition to @madNbad's advice you should make sure the sprocket teeth (the gear teeth you can see just to the left of the film loading prongs) are engaged in with the sprocket holes along the edge of the film. The top and bottom teeth don't both need to be engaged with the film, but it doesn't hurt, because closing the door and fitting the baseplate will line everything else up. scvpic Posted September 26, 2023 Author Share #6 Posted September 26, 2023 Hey guys, thanks for the tips. I shot a lot on an M6 for a year, I just swapped it for the M-A. Never had the M6 jam which caused me to panic. But I did have a few occasions where I’d not shoot a roll cause I improperly loaded the film on the M6 (my fault). I just have to start trusting that ‘less is more’ with respect to loading and taking note that the indicator is moving when advancing.
