Puts says:" in the field the contrast drops rapidly and details become soft."

 - -  > I have the Canon 35mm F2.8 which also has that character. Its colors are great. Some haze.

What would be the improvement having the summaron 35mm F3.5? [Or the Elmar 35mm f3.5  that I am also eying.]

My Summaron copy actually looks like new and comes with a plug-in UV filter. Focus and aperture ring work perfect after more than 70 years. However, it takes some getting used to that the focus ring rotates along with the aperture selection.

that's hard to say. Depending on your preferences for handling older lenses and their results, I would say: more fun, a smaller lens, less weight and the retro rendering of an old Leitz lens.

There is the summaron 35mm f3.5 in M mount. Its construction is amazing: super solid and compact and suuuper smooooth.

It is my go to lens whenever I feel the more expensive lenses are at danger of being soaked, stolen, bumped.  All in all, I really like it.

Bronco, I see that you have the M3 version (the infinity is perpendicular like a stop mark) , is that correct, and does that indeed bring up the 50mm frame-lines? No problem in focussing? Ever used it on digital?

Maciel, I am surprised as to the great sharpness and definite classical style but it is also concatenated with smoke ; really different from haze (= mostly an edge effect in my lenses).  How come?

Good point. As far as I can tell in the short time, the lens seems to be very prone to flares and stray light. I took most of the photos shown here wide open. As soon as I stop down, the fog diminishes. I assume there is some fog inside between the lenses.
I was a little concerned by your comment, so I took some test shots. This one is shot at f5.6 and looks much better for my eyes.

The next photo I took this morning with the first early rays of sunlight 'wide' open at f3.5. I am not sure about whether this is fog or simply the soft rendering of the old lens.

Yes. M3 version. Focusing is accurate and there should be no reason why not. It has also been tested in digital M bodies.

Since it is not a collector lens, and it’s a lens meant to be at my service, I have filed off 1mm so it bring the 35mm framelines. I couldn’t be happier 👍🏻

I tried out my Summaron 35mm f/3.5 from 1952 on my M246 Monochrom today. The test photo convinced me. I actually bought the Summaron 35mm for my Leica IIIf as a supplement to the Elmar 50mm. But before snapping film I wanted to try it out digitally. I was thrilled with the result. Aperture 4, 1/350 sec, ISO 320.

If one had the LTM version which LTM to M adapter would bring up the 35mm frame lines?   The 135/13.5cm adapter version? Or does it need to be the one that also does the 21-35 line as well?

They are the same, only the engraving differs.
