Radost Posted August 29, 2023 Share #1  Posted August 29, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, My Barnack Leica IIIC shutter finally got out of alignment. Will be sending it to one of the usual suspects to repair. Possibly dumb question: My camera has been in a dry desert home and the shutter fabric looks brand new. Should I replace it? Are the new replacements that the usual repair suspects use a sun burn proof? Is there any monetary value of having the original shutter? “kind of like a number matching car”?  Welcome, dear visitor! Pyrogallol Posted August 29, 2023 Share #2  Posted August 29, 2023 Looks as if one of the shutter ribbons has broken. When it is repaired you might as well get the shutter curtains replaced, it won’t reduce the collectibility of the camera and probably make it more desirable if you later decide to sell it. I don’t think there are any metal shutter blinds available for Leicas? I was always advised to point the camera downwards to avoid the shutter looking into the sun when carrying it around. Thanks, I did not mean metal shutters. I meant stronger burn proof fabric.
spydrxx Posted August 29, 2023 Share #4 Â Posted August 29, 2023 Nope - no burn proof fabrics. Use a lens cap when possible.
Pyrogallol Posted August 29, 2023 Share #5  Posted August 29, 2023 Canon rangefinder cameras used metal shutter blinds in the 1960’s.
