qqphot Posted August 19, 2023 Share #1 Posted August 19, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Due to my own abject foolishness, in the process of reassembling my IIIf I have dropped and lost the tiny coupling piece (even the service manual calls it this! "the coupling piece 42 491-81") which sits between the ST lever's shaft and the ST mechanism. I don't really need the self-timer but it seems challenging to reassemble without the coupler and I hate leaving things half-assed like that. I'm afraid my only hope of replacing it will be finding a cheap parts camera so I wonder if it's the same on all the self-timer equipped barnacks? Welcome, dear visitor! jerzy Posted August 19, 2023 Share #2 Posted August 19, 2023 yes, all starting with IIId until including IIIg have the same part. But it would be pitty to sacrify another camera. It is not so difficult to make one from brass, if you want I can send you tomorrow detailed photos and some instructions. You had luck anyhow that you have not lost tiny, special washers (42 492 96)

I thought about trying to cut a replacement from brass rod stock but it would have taken lots of trial and error without the original to measure from. I don't think I lost anything else, as I was doing all the work over a large tray, but somehow it bounced out. I'm sure I've screwed other things up, though, but it was a camera I bought to learn on anyway.
qqphot Posted August 20, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted August 20, 2023 (edited) Well after a couple hours of further searching I found the tiny thing wedged under a table leg! Jerzy - unsurprisingly, I already found another post on LCF from 2018 in which you described how to do it! Reassembly was fiddly but not too difficult. It works now, though it runs faster than it uesd to - only about 4 seconds to trip the shutter instead of 10! Maybe i should run the spring down a bit more? Maybe i should run the spring down a bit more? I understand that shutter is released when ST lever is at apoprox 8 oclock and not 11. I such case you need to span clockwork by 90 degree more and reinstall the lever (at 6oclock). There are 2 ways how to do it: - span ST clockwork (Lever at 6 oclock, remove lever, reposition special washers, turning 90 degree in right direction, mount the lever (when fixing the screw clowork will start to run) or span ST, remove the lever, washers and all other parts (like you would like to take the bpdy off), with flat screwdriver span the clowckor by 90 degree more and reinstall everything. I personall prefer the second method Edited August 20, 2023 by jerzy
