The closest thing we have to a bear in the UK is Winnie the poo, or a squirrel. I think I am safe

Well fine. No bears, but I hear those Scots can be pretty wily if they have a mind to be…

No, but this thread shows that Leica experts understand the criminal mind - how can that be?

😉

I don’t know if some understand the criminal mind better than others, we pay substantially more for our cameras and lenses, we are aware that some want our hard earned  ‘toys’ - especially without having to ‘sweat’  -  insure, be aware of your surroundings and try to blend into scenery.

I think, one of my camera cases/bags attracts more attention than the red dot on my M10-R. (I use a small size Zero Halliburton silver color aluminium case). If Leica provides black dot again, I would love to replace the red dot. However, I'm a photographer, I like all beautiful things, so I won't stick black tape, fake black logo (especially these convex/dome shape ones) or any DIY stuffs. It's because the original design and finishing is good, I don't want to ruin them. Although I don't need that red logo and I don't want to attract thieves. I also don't like shooting strangers on streets, so I don't need to be invisible. I never cover any nametags of my cameras in my 43 shooting years. I like most of the designs and appearances of good camera gears. They are many designers and engineers efforts. I also don't like to buy/use used cameras and lenses, but I did buy and use some used gears just because I'm poor. Used gears always have flaws, need time to deal with them (send to repairing masters). I don't want to waste my life just because of saving money.

Having earnestly read your Post, it’s so full of this, that and the other (a rabbit hole) instead of responding, I’ll enjoy a glass of wine and move on.

In 15 years I have had a handful of people (worldwide) who have recognised my camera as a Leica.

For 99.99% of people the hall mark of an 'expensive' or 'professional' camera is it's size, a viewfinder, an obvious camera bag/tripod and their behaviour. The opportunist criminal is no different, but anything unattached and easily grabbed is fair game. I've never been that convinced that a black or a red dot makes much difference.

I suppose hiding the logo does obscure the fact that you have more money than sense...... buying a Leica is not a cost effective route into photography.
