With the Q3 being my travel camera these days, I have been looking for something to black out the red Leica logo on the body to make it less conspicuous.  I found this on Etsy.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/1085050031/24pcs-black-leica-3d-domed-stickers?click_key=476444774a5b086fec645f36c1984d8c8b762710%3A1085050031&click_sum=3c16aad9&ref=hp_rv-2

It costs about US$28 including shipping to the U.S. and it took two and a half weeks because it is being made in Riga, Latvia!  I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised that the stickers were 3-dimensional and made from a soft vinyl-like substance.  I used the smallest one on the sheet.  Unfortunately, it is the exact size of the logo so it's almost impossible to cover the logo entirely within showing a little red rim.  But at a distance it looks fine.  I'll try the next size up to see what it looks like.

Sorry, if it makes you feel better, have at it…but lots has been written about this and you’re fooling yourself.

Most thieves aren’t looking for the red dot…they just know what an expensive camera looks like and hope they can sell it…face it, Leica’s don’t look like cheap plastic P&S’s.

And those that are knowledgeable know a Leica with or without the red dot.

Do you seriously think that by taking the Stuttgart badge off your Porsche the car thief doesn’t know what it is 😂

Sure, I am not that naive.  But there is always a chance that someone is far away enough that he won't be able to figure out what camera it is within the distinctive red dot.  Some people care about aesthetics, some people don't. If someone wants to put black tape over the logo, good for him.   I would not deride anyone for his own taste.  :)

Surely the bottom line is:- Insure the camera for all vacation/travel eventualities.  Don’t forget the accessories..

Not deriding you at all...as I said if it makes you feel better, go for it.

It just doesn't really work.

Your argument about 'at a distance'...at a distance they can definitely tell it's a good camera...Leica, Canon, Nikon or Sony.  I don't think there are many thieves out there that when they see a camera at a distance say to themselves, "well it could be Canon or a Nikon...if it isn't a Leica I'm not going to bother".

Of course the bigger issue is that it is a shame that we even have to worry about this crap :(

I agree but I prefer the look of a stylized black Leica badge any day to the red one. It just looks better to my eyes. I realized ages ago thieves know what to go for and what is valuable or not.

Now we’re talking esthetics… I do like the look of the various Monochrom versions…very clean look.

Do you still have that Louis Vuitton camera bag? ;)

I am not sure the red dot matters all that much man.

Speaking of being derisive....  Does it really make you feel better about yourself?  I turned 70 this week.  I am long past being bothered by comments like yours.  :)

I assume you lost your sense of humour somewhere along the way?

It was a joke about people worrying about a red dot on the camera, while likely whoever owns a Leica, the Leica isn’t the only thing of value on them. The Louis Vuitton bit was used a it’s known / recognisable pattern. Funny you took offence to something barely even related to you 🤣😂 Now you know the joke, are you still offended? Hopefully not, as there was quite literally nothing offensive in it 🤦‍♂️

Thank you for your self-explanatory response.  I understand perfectly!

Can’t quite believe so many people seem to have been triggered by this post.
OP, I think the black sticker looks great and does indeed make the camera a little less conspicuous. Sure anyone in the know will still recognise it as a Leica but, I like the more subtle look. Given that Leica themselves depleted their own stocks of the black dots and there lots of other posts on the tinternet asking where to purchase them, it’s clearly a popular thing to do.

I agree with you. Let the seller of the 'fake' Leica badge worry about what they are doing, rather than us on a forum :)

I would prefer no dot, used to cover with tape but then what is that really achieving. Thankfully 90% of my images now are taken on hikes, with no thievery going on.

Yes, it was just an innocent post, but it almost liked I touched a nerve.  :)

If the black sticker makes the camera 5% less likely to be taken, then it's worth it to me.  Not every potential thief is a camera expert.
