DAVIDMC100 Posted July 29, 2023 Share #1  Posted July 29, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am thinking of buying this adapter 'Leica Adapter M3 28-50 M2 50 Screw Mount Lens to M-Mount', to use my screwmount 50 mm Leica on my Leica M6 TTL. But what does the M3 and M2 nomenclature mean? Shouldn't it work ok on my my M6 ?
Advertisement Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Hi DAVIDMC100, Take a look here Adapter name question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
madNbad Posted July 29, 2023 Share #2  Posted July 29, 2023 It will bring up the 50mm frame lines. The M3 never had any frame lines wider than 50mm so no idea of why it has the 28mm markings. I’m using one marked just like that for a Voigtlander 50 2.5 Color Skopar and it works great.
Michael Geschlecht Posted July 30, 2023 Share #3  Posted July 30, 2023 (edited) Hello Everybody, The reason for the "28 - 50" for M3 & the "50" for M2 marking was that: Early adapters took into account that there was no "28 mm" or "35 mm" frame in the M3. So, the adapter was designed to show the 50 mm frame when lenses of any of those 3 focal lengths was attached. Which gives the most uncluttered view thru the M3 range/viewfinder when focusing. Because if the user was using a 28 mm lens or a 35 mm lens: They would be using a supplementary viewfinder when framing the photo. With the M2 & later range/viewfinder models: When a screw mount lens lens is used with this adapter: The 50 mm frame lines appear.
