TLG Posted July 26, 2023 Share #1 Posted July 26, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently managed to pick up this lovely nickel & black VIDOM for my Leica III (1933) which I find to be excellent. (I don't have an issue with the reversed image as I've used Twin Lens Reflex before). Welcome, dear visitor! As the VIDOM is capable of acting as a viewfinder for multiple lenses (and I don't think a SBLOO would be fitting) I'm interested in the idea of an Elmar 3.5cm lens – mostly for photographing Georgian architectural and room-based scenes. I'd like to ask what are your experiences of an Elmar 3.5cm (35mm) f3.5 lens (if you've used one)? Is it worth the addition to the Elmar 5cm (50mm)? They also seem to be not the easiest to find (in Export/Feet scale). Any thoughts/advice/views very welcome! Thank you. TLG Posted August 3, 2023 Author Share #7 Posted August 3, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I found a chrome post-WWII 3.5cm lens which I think I’ll be happy with (I’m aware of potential chrome issues with mid-late 1940s Leitz lenses - but as long as the optics work…). Perhaps one day a 1930s Nickel export version - but with most current asking prices… I was after the Elmar so it could pancake down, fit in the bag and be usable with my FB-07 hood. In theory this completes my Leica lens collection (of three). 🙂

It’s really nice and I actually find it quite fun. Everything is in imperial measurements (to save on mental calculations 😉).
TLG Posted August 5, 2023 Author Share #9 Posted August 5, 2023 The 35mm lens (1949 chrome). Seems like a nice example. I will know more when I get my first roll back. Everything is in imperial and it still fits in my ONA pouch/bag. The VIDOM set to 35mm view frame is fun to look through and I actually like the "blanking off" of extraneous/outside detail. For me, I don't think a SBLOO would suit as well. Welcome, dear visitor! TLG Posted August 5, 2023 Author Share #10 Posted August 5, 2023 Oh, and if anyone knows where I can pick up a VIDOM case on its own (UK) I’d be interested. 🙂
