Dang it! I had saved a few important posts in FileMaker since this forum search engine truly sucks! Unfortunately, I lost them when I upgraded to OS 10.5 since the installation hosed some of my files. Anywho, can anyone help with finding a post regarding or assisting with a couple of pre-sets? Specifically, I read where someone recommended setting the custom profiles of; one for florescent light, another for incandescent light and third… well, I actually forgot.

Regards,

Setting is easy: "First you set the profile settings you desire on the Set menu: DNG, JPEG, ISO, WB. Then go to the Menu, Save User Profile, and Save as 1. Then you go back to the Set menu and create a different profile, return to the Menu, and Save as 2. You can create three different profiles this way, and choose the settings for each by selecting the profile number on the Set menu." (A post by the brilliant Stephen Gilbert.)

Choosing settings is something else. That seems to be a personal matter: what are the most used setting in your photos? You could choose various combinations of ISO, WB, etc., depending on what you'd most like to have on hand.

Actually, the OP recommended a couple of nominal WB/Kelvin values for the more common lighting types’. It was more specific to the information I was seeking although your response is very helpful and I appreciate it.

Say, this is exactly the sort of information I was looking for! I realize it's based on personal preference although this allows an undeserving newbie' a place to start.

Thanks,

I find that the search engine here is very good, and I almost always find my search term on the first page of results. Sometimes I have to tune the search a little. Is this the thread you were looking for:

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/26018-what-settings-recommended-m8.html

It was halfway down the first page of results with the search terms: "custom settings", the same name you gave this thread...

I do believe you found it! As for the search thing’ I believe it’s just me since I’m so use to the Apple Discussions forum which incorporates FileMaker Server, whereby every field is wide open (wild card) with no tuning required. Either way, I appreciate your help in rooting this out.

My setting are.

User 1: ISO 320, EV ± 0, WB Auto, DNG+JPG fine, Res 6MP, sharp Mid high, Color Standard, Contrast Mid high. I only use this profile for my work related shots that need to be shared with others right away.

User 2: ISO 320, EV -2/3, WB Auto, DNG. This is my normal shooting mode and I make changes to it as I see fit for the shot/s.

User3: ISO 320, EV ± 0 WB Auto, DNG+JPG Fine 10MP, Sharp Mid High, Color B&W, Contrast Mid High.

Everything else is set at the default setting except I have Auto Review turned off for all user profiles.

That's right I leave the camera set to Auto white balance for default. I find the camera doesn't do to bad with that setting and if I know I'll be in one type of lighting, and remember to change it, I'll set it to that preset or use a expodisc.
