Would you choose Leica Q-E over Q3, if?..

Me, if Q-E is like Q2, only gets:
- Q3 EVF
- updated image processor
- USB-C charging
- higher resolution build-in touchscreen

I no need - tilting screen - 60MP - HDMI port - "wireless" charging - phase detection autofocus - 8K video /actually, any video/

Yup!

Tilt screen, USB-C charging, 8k video…things you ‘have’ to have to keep up with the Jones’s…do 98% of shooters need them….nada 😂

Who cares? For the next 12 months there will be more than enough Q2s coming to the used market. No point introducing a Q-E until Leica have settled into a production level that satisfies demand for the Q3 and the market has absorbed all the Q2s that have been turned in without depressing used prices. If you saturate the market everything gets dragged down. In addition I would expect that Leica would a) launch the SL3 before a Q-E and b) launch the Q3M before the Q-E.

You maybe waiting for a couple of years before the de-contented Q-E turns up...

Well said. Why would Leica release a product with nearly zero demand? So Many used Q2’s available. Not to mention take away production from the Q3. SL3 is next for sure then Q3M.

No. Another from the 2%. For the phase detect AF if nothing else.

But then I’m not buying the Q3 anyway: I want unlimited video recording.

And I’m content without most of the things the OP wants to keep: higher res EVF, touchscreen, USB-C charging, none of which help you take a better photo.

I don’t see the point of a rebadged Q2 in the form of a Q-E.

However, a Q3-S could be interesting if they kept everything the same but used the 24MP S5II sensor instead and reduce the price of the camera by $1000-1500. The S5II sensor is pretty much the same as the SL2-S and S5 sensor except it has phase detect pixels to support PDAF.

With that said, if Leica were to actually go down this path, I imagine this won’t happen until/unless Q3 demand drops but the Q4 is still at least 2-3 years out before a refresh is available. This I think is an unlikely scenario. Only other potential scenario I can think of is that Leica makes a strategic business move to increase production capacity for the Q series to drive up volume and reduce component cost for certain components like the Maestro IV chip because they need to meet minimum order volumes with certain vendors.

There are customers, like me, who prefer buying new instead of used, particularly as the offer of mint Q2s with warranty is very, very limited. Buying used from private makes sense only if you can try it out at place, before making a decision, and without having to travel hundreds of km. Buying used from most dealerships is not a great deal, if you can save just 300-400 € in comparison to a discounted, brand new item. E.g. in Germany, Q2 offers are slightly below 5k, brand new. Good condition used ones from dealers around 4.6k, private ones around 10% lower + the risk and travel expenses.

Of course, if mint condition isn't a prerequisite plenty of offers are available.

From a marketing perspective, introducing a Q-E in parallel to the Q3 of course is not productive. Probably they'll take a decision just in >1 year depending on their old parts stock. Another product, though a special model, always represents some complexity.
