Phat Posted July 16, 2023 Share #1 Posted July 16, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everyone. I am a newbie here. I had my own first Leica M just a week ago, a used M10. I started to take photos with her and it very fun. As an OCD i have a question about the viewfinder front window which i have known that it has a coating and is hard to get scratches. But for mine, i found there is a very minor scratch on my Leica M10 viewfinder front window, i know it doesn't make any issue to image quality but does anyone get the same notice to this kind of minor scratches after a long time usage of a Leica M camera and is there any kind of method to avoid scratches on front viewfinder window which is big and difficult to avoid scratches? Thank you.

TomB_tx Posted July 16, 2023 Share #2 Posted July 16, 2023 With time you just develop handling habits to protect and avoid contact with the window areas. I "never" get fingerprints on mine unless someone else uses it. Just like with film Leicas with cloth shutter curtains you develop habits to never let the lens face upwards towards the sun to burn holes in the curtains (can happen in under 3 seconds). I have a fair collection of used Leicas, and have never seen a scratched window, so sounds like a fluke. If it really bothers you the window can be replaced. cboy Posted July 23, 2023 Share #5 Posted July 23, 2023 (edited) OP. You'd be surprised how easily to scuff up a M let alone any camera. Most are unknowingly caused by the user, i.e taking out of a zippered bag, over sharp clothing... And putting a thin transparent adhesive film removes the ability to use a rangefinder. Best way is to leave it in a glass case to admire.😁 Jokes aside being mindful of these things may help, but its more or less inevitable. If it doesn't detract normal function I wouldn't bother.
