Not exactly new to Leica, having owned a Model 1 in 1962, an M2 in 1977 and an M6 through 2004 to 2007 but never really settled to using the rangefinder cameras, having been a Pentax user since my first S1a in 1963 and followed that with various other Pentax SLRs until earlier this year.  I've been a dedicated b&w film user all my life and, if I'm honest, extremely sceptical - if not hostile - to digital technology.  Yes, I have used my i-Phone camera but found it extremely useful as a 'notebook' but little else.

I'm now 75 and find the carrying of a bag full of a couple of bodies and several lenses quite onerous.  In addition to which, I'm not terribly happy at having my films scanned every time I use and airport or ferry.  Discovering the "Swiss Army Knife of Cameras" (V-Lux 4 Type 114) has driven me to make the plunge into the Leica world of digital photography and, having taken a little while to really understand (hopefully) what the beautiful camera I have bought can do I am, as happy as a dog with two tails!!

In a months time, I'm off to France with my daughter and 5 grandchildren and I'm determined to make the most of it.  Let's hope we both survive the trip.
