Wiggi Posted November 12, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted November 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Waiting for the new R10 I think a Noctilux 1:1/50mm would be a nice lens. Leica should build it. Â Cheers Martin
Advertisement Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Hi Wiggi, Take a look here Noctilux for R-System. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
fernando_b Posted November 13, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted November 13, 2007 Agree! I suppose that Leica (unfortunately) thinks differently: it will be easy - if it will be produced - the R10 will have high minimum sensitivity, at least as M8 (160 ISO), so the chance to use at f/1 is noto so high to sell enough of them. stunsworth Posted November 13, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted November 13, 2007 In the past Leica have said that the throat on the R system isn't large enough to accomodate an f1 lens.
rosuna Posted November 13, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted November 13, 2007 In the 80s Leica developed a prototype of a Noctilux-R 50mm f/1.2.
thrid Posted November 13, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted November 13, 2007 It would also be huge. A while back I saw the Canon EF 1/50mm. It's a monster.
leicar7 Posted November 13, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted November 13, 2007 At the recent LHSA meeting, Herr Kaufmann would not confirm or deny Noctis for either the M or R. He referred more than once to our "wish list" as being some idea of what features there may be on the R10 and new lenses being developed for the M and R. He said uncategorically that Leica has 24 lens projects underway, but absolutely no hints about which ones.
marknorton Posted November 14, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted November 14, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think Dr Kaufmann like to tease his audience - those 24 lenses coud include new lenses for the M, new and revised lenses for the R10, lenses being designed under contract for Panasonic, their anticipated move into projection, lenses for 4/3. Certainly it looks like the days of a new Leica M lens in a year being a "good year" are past.
leicar7 Posted November 14, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted November 14, 2007 Mark, Â Your comment is well taken about the range of lens projects. But his words and manner of presentation did not discourage one from inferring that at least some nontrivial percentage of those projects involve M and/or R lenses. Certainly one should expect some new ones to coincide with the announcement of and support the features of the R10. But Leica has certainly upgraded the cageyness factor in withholding any hint about any lens project. The only hinting at all was about Noctis, and they were vague enough. We'll just have to wait and see.
sdai Posted November 14, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted November 14, 2007 24 lenses may be the stuff sitting on their drawing board, I'm sure not every one will make their way to your camera bags ... Canon, Nikon have many stuff on their drawing boards too, I've heard about a 35-70/2L, 500/2.8L IS DO, 100-300/2.8L IS, 180/3.5L IS Macro and the 200/2L IS, 800/5.6L IS they've just announced. Â Just to keep their designers busy, will they hire somebody for doing nothing? nah ... Erwin Puts has been touting a 8 element summicron which he describes as flawless and may be the best optical design ever, did anybody see this thing ever? We'll just have to wait and see.  The hint for the Nocti was for an M Nocti 0.95. I would not really see much need for other M designs in the moment.  For the R system I think they have different important designs to finish, especially the Zooms (something like 2.8/16-35 and 2.8/24-70 and 2.8/70-200 or similar, which should become their standard lenses for the new R10. All their competition has these lenses, so they need to have similar coverage and aperture too, in order to be successful.  For 4/3 they also have to come with some new Leica like designs, hopefully also available under Leica in the future and not just under Panasonic! Wiggi Posted November 15, 2007 Author Share #11  Posted November 15, 2007 As the R-System was introduced in the 1960s with the Leicaflex, most of the R-Lenses based upon the Lenses of the M-System.  In this modern times with computer, I think it would be not very difficult and expensive to develop a Noctilux R 1:1/50 mm.  I know about the prototype of a Noctilux-R 50mm f/1.2.in the 1980s. But I think it was to close to the Summilux 1:1,4/50mm  Cheers Martin
