Hi,

Together with some other dutch photographers we are investigating if there is interest in setting up a European Photographers Network.

The idea is to have a network of experienced photographers that organize photography activities in cities cross Europe via a Facebook site. Membership is free of charge. There is only one condition and that is an obligation to organize once in 2 years a photographic event in a city in your own country that can be easily reached by public transport from other countries in Europe. This photographic event can be a photo walk, visit to some interesting buildings, show some nice spot for street photography, or whatever you think is interesting for photographers.

All activities are open for other members of the network.

What you will get in return ? Well the opportunity to join activities organized by other photographers in other countries that know very well the hotspots for photography in their own country. And you will develop a nice network of international contacts and will have a lot of fun.

As the photography activities will be organized in cities the target audience are street/urban/architecture/travel/city scape photographers as most likely we will not organize safaris, bird trips, nature activities.

Would you be interested to join this network ? If yes, I will send you an invitation. If not but you do know people that could be interested, feel free to forward this message.   We will take the rest of this year to see if we can onboard sufficient photographers to make a start in 2024. In Netherlands we made the concept already work and it is quite a success. Is there anyone interested? Please let me know here or via a pm.

Hi, Maarten, are you familiar with Meetup.com?

It is an existing website that performs a very similar function to what you're proposing (although it's not restricted to just photography).  It's purpose is to help people with similar interests to meet face-to-face wherever they are by searching for and joining relevant Meetup groups.

For example, I am a member of several photography groups in London but when I travel I can look for and join photography groups at my destination and perhaps join up for a photo walk  or other activity with people with a similar interest if there's something scheduled.  Most groups are very low cost unless it's a specialist group that offers advice, coaching or training when they might charge a little more.

Meetup.com membership is free and you can join as many groups in as many different interests as you wish.  The website was started after the World Trade Centre terrorist atrocity in 2001 as a 'bulletin board' to help people find others they'd lost touch with, and it's grown globally since then.

(For full disclosure, I am not connected to Meetup and do not stand to profit from it in any way - just a satisfied user for the past 15 years. 🙂)

Pete.

Hi Pete,

Yes, I am. Thanks. The point of this group is that people in the group not only attend meetings and activities but also organize them once in a while. And the possibility to run a closed group on Facebook helps to better support this.

I use meetup.com for some interests and follow some organizations there.

Thanks again.

Maarten

Hi Olaf, good question. We use it as a way to communicate and share activities. But if you are interested and I’m sure we can come up with a solution. Do you use Instagram?

Instagram I do have.
