MP4 versus MOV is a lot like JPG versus RAW, you just get less data and flexibility in post with the former.  For most people it might be fine though.

I’d recommend Auto-ISO for video, especially sunsets.  Your exposure will jump each time the ISO raises as the sun goes down.  Set your exposure pretty bright to start the recording, should be good as the sun sets and things get darker.

My understanding is that the higher the resolution, the easier it is to crop the video in post-production. However, where is the optimum for the final web posting, which is mostly restricted to H264? - 8K, 4K? What about the ProRes format?

With Q3, I have been facing a time restriction for recording the MOV-4K-50ips-600Mps-4:2:2-10bit format. After several minutes (less than 4), the acquisition has stopped, with the message that the transfer to the SD card is limited by the writing speed. It didn't change after reducing 50ips to 25ips. I have been using 200MB/s xc I card (see below). Is the Leica bit rate indicated in the format (600 Mps for 50ips) the reason for this limit? Is my card too limited in wright-in speed?

I use Sandisk Extreme Pro 300Mb/s and V90II, both 128Gb and 256Gb. Without pretending to understand the tech, I can say that they record 4K 25Mbps ALL-I .mov without problems on the SL2-S. I've recorded 4K 50fps as well but not for extended periods.

Just noticed that autocorrect changed my recommendation above from DON’T use auto iso, definitely NOT recommended for sunsets. 
 

Also I’ve had no issues using V60 cards for recording 4k video, but if you’re going to need a new card anyway might as well go with a V90.

Ah no its not! MP4 and MOV are not like jpeg and raw. They are file containers. REC709 and LOG are jpeg and raw. I know as I work in the media industry sector. Perhaps before advising users you check as to not send them on a path of confusion.

 

Now to the original question: 4K is more than enough for personal and work use. Depending on what you are filming then 25p/30p will be a perfect frame rate. You can goto 50p/60p if you wish to have the option to slow down your footage for a dynamic appeal. Filming in the log mode will allow you more latitude to color grade your footage. I would set to 4K 30P ( great for youtube ). 8K is only handy if you intend to crop in heavily if you edit on a 1080 or 4K timeline.
