Hello there M11 enthusiasts,

After using my 21mm viewfinder once on my new M11, I've noticed that the hot shoe does not hold the viewfinder (or its cover for that matter) securely anymore. When I try to slide the viewfinder, it sits very loosely and could quite easily fall off the camera. Seems to be an issue of a lack of resistance on the two small plates in the hot shoe.

I've brought it up to Leica in Paris and apparently I'm not the only one. I've scoured the Forum though and couldn't find any mention of this issue. Has anyone else experienced this?

There does not seem to be a solution to this defect - the proposed fix is to manually lift the plates with a flat head screwdriver once in a while. Now I don't mind a little DIY, especially on my old film cameras, but I'd like to think that hot shoe technology is something Leica should be able to master.

I'm seriously disappointed with this quality control issue, which really goes against everything Leica stands and prides itself for. Adding to that the recent back plate scratching issues with the new M6, it begs to wonder whether the standards of engineering in Wetzlar are held at a level they once were.

Thoughts?

Cheers

I have the same problem with my M11 and the 21 viewfinder.. it still holds tight for now but it will get loose in time as my M10 happened before.. solution? Well with my M10 I put an electric tape inside the hotshoe.. and it was tight after that.. but for a brand like leica; should I try to find a solution for such a thing?

interesting! I have the silver 21 bright line finder and have been using it with no issues for about 5 years now. first on my M10-P and now on the M11 for about 18 months. I will start watching for it and adjust the resistance as needed. I would hate for it to fall of.
