Adam_James Posted June 28, 2023 Share #1 Posted June 28, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, Never had any S lenses before, but bought 2 used recently. On my 180mm Apo Elmar-S, the front lens ring that states the name of the lens has fallen off. On the backside of the ring, there looks to be (3) tack marks where glue was applied. Is this an issue I can fix myself, or do I send to Leica in New Jersey? My goal is to use these S lenses on my SL2-S with filters/etc, so I’m a little annoyed, but there may be a simple solution. I attached pictures for reference. Thank you for your help, Adam Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 Hi Adam_James, Take a look here Has anyone else had their Leica S front lens nameplate ring fall off your lens?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gael.e Posted June 30, 2023 Share #2 Posted June 30, 2023 (edited) Strange and unfortunate to say the least. I would strongly caution against using glue unless you know exactly what kind of glue they use in Wetzler; if too weak, it will muck up the ring causing a potentially stubborn residue. If the glue is too strong, they will not be able to remove it for servicing. Please excuse my nosiness, but where did you buy it? Did they mention this in the description? leicapages Posted July 2, 2023 Share #3 Posted July 2, 2023 This is really odd, have never heard or seen this before. Like gael.e I would not glue this myself. Many glues can be abrasive and eventually damage the lens. Your best bet would be to send it in for servicing.
Adam_James Posted July 3, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted July 3, 2023 Thank you for your responses. I’ll be looking to send this lens in for servicing this week. I’m going to let Leica handle it
davidmknoble Posted July 4, 2023 Share #5 Posted July 4, 2023 Adam, curious what Leica says. In 7 years I’ve never had that happen - through freezing weather, rain, wind and sand… DAvid.
