Leica M 50mm f/1.4 SUMMILUX-M Black Paint E46 - 2 versions?

I can't find an answer in any existing threads or anywhere else online -- but doesn't anyone know the difference between the 11623 and 11868 pre-ASPH 50mm f/1.4 black paint Summilux....?

11613 is black paint on brass and 11868 is black anodised. I can't see a 11623 listed.

11623 is the black paint edition, with glossy surface, red numbers and scalloped focus ring (the one in the middle of the picture), 11868 is the standard black anodised version with grooved focus ring (not in the picture, but the same design as the ones on the left and right).

Interesting, as all reference books seem to say 11613 for this version, including recently published Leica Pocket Book 9th Edition.  Anyone got the lens to check number on it @ianman?

All pictures I can find of the original box say 11623.

Like Ernst wrote, my box mentions 11623. I can’t see anything on the actual lens, do those numbers appear on them?

I suppose it’s quite possible that there are 2 versions of black paint on brass. This one was specifically the millenium edition and sold separately from the M6 kit (which included a 35mm 1.4 and 90mm 2.0 IIRC)

Can't get better than that!  Looks like some books need correcting, unless as Ian says there is another obscure limited edition.

That's interesting !   Ian's explanation is likely IMO .

There is also another BP 50:1.4 version - Ltd edition celebrating the large bridge between Sweden and Denmark (Øresund bridge).  It is identical to the millennium but has Øresundsbroen written on it. 150 copies.   

Seems quite baffling that they weren't confident that over 150 people would be passionate enough about the bridge to have it engraved on their camera 

Unsure if that one has a different product code but if they do then there are likely 3 product codes:

• Millennium with set (The Millennium kit 35mm was the 35:2 APSH in Black Paint and matching serials M6 TTL / 35 lens / 50 lens). 
• Millennium sold independently in same time period 
• Oresund Bridge

11613 is the same as 11623 and 11622. 11623 is Millenium edition. 11622 is Oresundsbrun while 11613 is ICS edition.

And what is the total number of these 3 series of limited lenses? Are they attractive enough to be collectibles (or even more collectible) in the future?
