I’ve been looking online for hours to find if TTL will work between a 24D flash and a Q3. I can’t seem to find a definitive answer either way.

When I select TTL on the flash, I just see a blinking A. Wondering if I am not choosing the right settings on my camera or if it’s simply not supported.

Anyone have any luck on a Q2 or a Q3? If so, can you please tell me what I’m doing wrong? Thank you!

Hello Mink,

Sorry, I can't answer for the 24D, but I have a (similar vintage) SF26, and that does work with TTL on the Q3.  One thing though, the SF26 is really difficult to get onto the hot shoe of the Q3 - even harder to get off. If it's not seated all the way in, it seems to not sync correctly with TTL and other settings. Maybe the 24D has similar issues?  Seems the mounting foot on these earlier Leica flash units were slightly larger than the current flashes such as the SF40 that I also have, and slips into the Q3 shoe quite easily.

Thanks Paul.

I thought about getting the SF26 but I got a deal on a 24D.

Im looking at the set up and the 24D slides in easily and locks in. I don’t really see anymore room for it to go in. Could be a different issue or just incompatible for TTL :(

Curious if you need to set anything on camera to make your SF26 work or do you just switch on TTL on the flash?

Thanks for the advice.

cheers,

Hello Mink,

I just set the TTL mode/switch on the SF26 - don't use the inbuilt diffusers - and generally the flash exposure is pretty good. Having said that, the SF40 is a more versatile flash unit, but by having both I can set the SF40 in slave mode off camera and it can be triggered by the SF26 on camera to get a more balanced (light) result. I like using the smaller SF26 however, as it looks less obtrusive on the camera, and for daytime fill flash it is simple to set up and use.

Guessing this means I either 1) have a lemon or 2) TTL is not available for the Q3 using the 24D.

When I set mine to TTL, I get a blinking A on the flash display.

Thanks for the advice!

Quite apart from the original question, I think that the SF 26 is horribly overpriced compared to the SF 40 which is not cheap itself either.  As an alternative , especially for fill or trigger, a used SF 24 D is an excellent choice.

I have the rxact same compatibility problem with my Q3 and my SF24D in TTL mode.

I sent an email to the Leica support team 2 week-end ago and today the french tech manager called me and confirmed that the german techs sauf that the  Q3 is supposed to be compatible with the SF24D in TTL mode. He suggested me to make another test after a reset of the camera and/or to come back to him after the next firmware upgrade if he the problem is still not fixed.

Let's wait for the next firmware release that should happen vers quickly accirding to the french Leica team.

I just finished the uprade to the Last 1 3 version and made some tests. I confirm that TTL mode of rhe SF24D does not work with the Q3 despite Leica Germany has confirmed yesterday  the full compatibility betwern Q3 and flash SF24D.

The problem is: When I select TTL on the flash, I just see a blinking A. on the flash screen.

If you have rhe solution or if you don't have any problem with SF24D flash and your Q3, could you you please communicate ?

If you have the same problem, I suggest to inform the Leica support team at the following email address: customer.care@leica-camera.com

The more customers will complain the soonest the fix will be provided.

I just sent customer care an email asking about this. Hopefully the reply will be that they’re working on a fix. Anyone else got some news regarding this?

Customer care just came back to me with this:

Indeed, the SF 24D is not compatible and the SF 26 neither.
You may use the SF 40, SF 64, SF 60 and SF C1.

This Q3 technical data : no mention of SF24D

Flash exposure compensation only available with SF40 and SF60

Flash
Flash unit connector Via the accessory shoe
Flash sync time 1/2000 s, slower shutter speeds available, an automatic changeover to TTL linear flash mode with HSS-compatible Leica system flash units if sync time is undercut
Flash exposure metering Using center-weighted TTL pre-flash metering with Leica flash units (SF 26, SF 40, SF 58, SF 60, SF 64) or with system compatible flash units, remote-controlled flash SF C1
Flash exposure compensation SF 40: ±2 EV in 1/2 EV increments
