Pierre68 Posted June 18, 2023 Share #1 Posted June 18, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello folks I have an S-007 with 3 batteries of different ages. One of them comes from the previous owner and I suspect it is not behaving normally. Initially I thought it was my pro charger which was at fault, not charging on one of its slot. I sent the charger to Leica Geneva and the exchanged it for a new one without question. But is seems one of the battery is not charging... And the charger gets really hot on the Sind of the slot holding the suspected faulty battery. Any clue if this means the battery is dead? Is there some sort of test to perform to check for that? Thanks

John McMaster Posted June 18, 2023 Share #2 Posted June 18, 2023 Does the 'faulty' battery power the camera? I thought the pro charger had been discontinued several years ago... john
mgrayson3 Posted June 18, 2023 Share #3 Posted June 18, 2023 I may be wrong about this, but I recall that putting the battery in the charger before plugging the charger in would perform a battery reset of some sort. Possibly misremembered myth, but it couldn't hurt. Probably.

Even though I have to admit I did not perform a serious measuring of the time I can use the camera with every different battery I ave...
John McMaster Posted June 18, 2023 Share #5 Posted June 18, 2023 Battery should last for many hundred shots. I have a couple of used batteries that came with my S(007) six years ago, they are indistinguishable with the two I bought new. john
djmay Posted June 18, 2023 Share #6 Posted June 18, 2023 The battery charging is quirky. Sometimes, the charger 80% light illuminates when the battery is in fact not charged. Insert the battery in the camera and check what the camera reports. If not charged, put it in the charger and repeat.
Pierre68 Posted June 18, 2023 Author Share #7 Posted June 18, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well today I tried to charge the suspected battery in the pro charger and it would not go higher than the first 20% bar for hours. Then I un plugged the charger with the battery plugged in it and replugged it and the battery charged normally. Quirky is the right word for it.
davidmknoble Posted June 27, 2023 Share #8 Posted June 27, 2023 I love using the nitecore chargers for the M / SL system, compact and give me ‘health’ info about the battery. But, they will not charge brand new battery until charged once with the Leica charger. Then work fine. I had an SL battery it would not charge this week, but putting it into the original charger brought it all the way up and it works fine. You could also try the charger that comes with the camera (the plug and the little nib that plugs into the battery) and see if that works. May be similar with the pro charger that sometimes it just needs less computer thought and just charge the dumb thing!

Plugging in the charger after the battery is inserted does a recondition cycle.
