Happy that I kept my silver M glasses.
That new SL2 in silverchrom looks amazing.
Very happy with it.
No need for a 100MP SL3 🙂

Maybe I exchange the black L-M Adapter with a silver one?

Your silver lenses with the scalloped focusing collars look beautiful! Yes, I recommend the Silver M-L adapter, it also looks good with black lenses because the silver adapter merges with the silver body and the black lens then stands out clearly by itself. Or keep your black adapter and get the silver adapter also. That way you always have a unified black or silver color starting right from the L mount. Man those silver scalloped lenses look fine.

Have been looking at the SL2-s but I'm struggling with the price, for that money the Nikon Z8 would be the better buy, technically speaking. I also find it a pity that Leica doesn't technically upgrade these special editions just a bit, instead of merely changing the color. It would make the camera more attractive.

Wve with a Leica you get a higher price, design & craftsmanship, quality of materials & manufacture, and conscientious (but slower) service. The best "technical value" will always go to Canon/Nikon/Sony. If a stacked sensor trumps all else, then the Z8 is your clear choice. BTW, watch out for the Z8 recalled model serial #s.

To technically upgrade a 1000 unit special edition like the Silver SL2 is not economically sound and is not done by any other brand. Fuji is not technically upgrading their just announced Disney edition X100V. Nikon didn't technically upgrade their special edition Zfc camera either. Even years ago in the film days Nikon's Anniversary F5 and Canon's F-1 Olympics models were trim variations, not technical upgrades.

The SL2 and SL2-S cameras are Bauhaus-like designs, tough as a brick shit house, produce beautiful photos, and the "new camera bugs" are all worked out of them. Is that more important to you, or are you more interested the latest technical model at the lowest price by C-N-S?

Good luck on your choice.

I also considered the Z8, but after I had a nightmare about the Nikon menu structure,
and dreamed about the 1000 pages user manual,
I was cured and asked my favorite Leica shop to send me a silver SL2.

Looks good even in black because there are a lot of black parts like the leather.

Perhaps the silver one does have another silver tone than the SL oder your lenses?

Will get the silver adapter in a few days and will post an image of the set.

Not sure if the SL2-S is the better-made camera, but it does look better than the Z8 yes. Thanks for the serial# warning.

I do doubt if it's not economically sound to technically upgrade new versions of an existing model. It does not have to be so "radical" as a Leica P version but they could have done some fine-tuning making the model even more attractive, and justifiable, to many.

Welcome to Club SL2!

I see you acted quickly and already in the thick of it making sure everything checks out asap. (Sorry to hear about having to send back your GM for adjustment.) I look forward to your test results for your wife's Sigma 150-600 lens on the SL2 as well. I also shoot with the GM 100-400 and G 200-600, so no plans for me to buy the Sigma, but I am curious to know your findings.

I'll reframe from gushing too much about Leica SL APO primes on the SL2 for now...at least until you sort things out with your new SL2. But if you do decide to keep the SL2, there can be a strong allure to match that camera with some of the best optics on the planet--at least one Leica SL APO prime 😜

Well LBJ2, that didn't take as long as I planned 😉 I just picked up an SL APO 90 in mint- condition on the Fred Miranda Buy & Sell. For those times when I want to do street with the Q2 or enjoy the M10R-M with a 35 or 50 and I want a second body with complimentary lens (I often do) in my Billingham F1.4 bag.

BTW, I've had the Sigma 150-600 on the Silver SL2 for two days now ready for testing. The wind had been too strong for accurate results on my tripod, that lens acts like a sail. Maybe soon, fingers crossed.

Very nice! That was fast. The SL APO 90 is another stellar IQ performer on the SL2. F2 with APO/Leica design treatment is excellent at 90mm FL as you will see, if you haven't already.

It was a synchronicity thing with the seller's excellent FM reputation, him being the original owner, having both boxes etc. and very competitive price. And then the most important thing, Busse gave the thumbs up ;-). He's shipping it FedEx today.

Is this your first APO SL- Summicron ?

If so and as a fellow Sony Shooter, just something to be aware of. I was a little surprised on my first use to find the focus ring on my SL APO lenses to be quite a bit stiffer turn than the focus ring on Sony GM lenses. Still very smooth just requires more force to turn than what I was used to on Sony or M lenses. Leica uses a unique design with a ring magnet which may have something to do with the tighter twist. Regardless, still a very good experience and the tighter feel might actually help with more precise movements for MF. There is a nice feature you can set the amount of manual focus throw desired on the SL APO lenses via the camera's menu. e.g. rotation of 90-360 degrees. Menu p.1/ Focusing/MF Setup/

"SL-Summicron Lenses feature a totally new manual focusing ring construction concept. In this concept, a ring magnet with alternating north-south magnetization is embedded in the manual focusing ring. The magnetic field changes its polarity when the ring is turned. A sensor monitors the status of the magnetic field and sends the data to the main processor. The drive then shifts the lens to the corresponding focusing position on the basis of the angle of rotation and the rotational speed."

Thanks much for that heads up on the MF feel, I may have thought the lens was bound up so I'm prepared now. What amount of rotation degree have you settled on?

I like 90 or 120 for quicker MF response for Photo mode. A longer pull may be better for video and more controlled focus pulling IMO. One of those things you just have to try and experiment as you might have a preference dependent upon FL or scene e.g., event vs landscape etc..

I think I read somewhere that MF set to 90-360 is more toward a linear MF experience and the Standard MF or Maximum setting is more like fly/focus-by-wire experience. Or maybe I dreamed this up... LOL

The photo setting sounds good I don't do video hardly at all, thanks again.

Make your choice, black or silverchrome adapter.
But be aware that the silverchrome finish on the SL2 is different then the finish of the adapter and on the older chrome lenses!

🙂
